Hi all!
It's been a while I have sold a bike on here - so I thought I would start the year right.
I am selling this 1990 Giant Cadex 980 C carbon road bike, which I have just rebuilt & "serviced".
The frameset is in fantastic shape considering its 32 years of age, some light bubbles under the lacquer but no damage or issues.
The frame is made of carbon tubes & alu lungs, with a lovely rear monostay. I seem to remember people on here like monostays!Size is 57cm for the top tube (centre to centre), seat tube is 56cm (ctc) so that corresponds to a Size Large (L), suitable for someone around 5ft11 - 6ft1 ish. Just too big for me!
The bike originally had an early 2x7 speed Shimano 105 groupset with downtube shifters, I have replaced it with a Shimano 6400 "600 TriColor" 2x8 speed groupset with brifters.
I fitted new gear & brake cables (inner & outer), new bar tape, regreased the bottom bracket and headset, trued the wheels. Seatpost, stem, bb all move freely and the bike is kept indoors.
Tyres, chain brake pads are very lightly used so it has good years ahead!
Works well enough, apart from the front derailleur which is a knackered triple braze that needs replacing as it has way too much play and misses most shifts. I do have a spare Shimano TriColor double front derailleur that I bought on eBay & is included in the sale (for you to fit).
The bar tape, although NOS, did not like spending the summer heatwave in the attic and is crumbling. I have a roll of plain black tape that you can have.
Test rides & pick up from London SE14 (nearest station New Cross).
Price wise I am after £275 -> £250 , which I think is fair - but as always not everyone might share my views. Happy to take cash / bank transfer / crypto.
As this is a 32 years old bike, no warranty or guarantee implied. Sold as seen.
Any questions, please ask!
Cheers
Vince

Received the replacement MPFDrive Display Controller so my e-assist is back in action.
Looks like the MPF DRIVE brand is on a long term hiatus - the EU importer is in Austria and does not reply to emails / calls so it has been a difficult process to get a replacement.
Thankfully a shop in Denmark had an I4US controller unit, with is the upgraded version of the one stolen off my bike - this time the screen can't be removed easily.
It also has a gauge showing how many kms you have left depending on the assistance power you choose. That's a welcome feature as you never really know how much 3 bars of juice is IRL.
For reference, the price was £128+VAT+Import Tax incl. A 20% off discount from the shop & shipping

Douze Cycles is releasing a new cargo bike in 2023.
Douze Heta. Looks similar to the R&M Packster if you squint.

Having done a bit more research on my stolen MPFDRIVE display screen, it looks like the connector is HIGO.
HIGO is, from what I am reading today, the standardised connector for e-assist.
Does anyone has a spare display with a male HIGO plug so I can try if another controller screen could potentially work?

So following on the theft of my MPF Drive controller unit - does anyone know if there is an intercompatibility chart of sorts to use another controller - universal or banfang etc.
I am looking to buy a spare MPF "I4U" display but would like to futureproof the bike, if this was to happen again.
@amey ?
Does anyone have advice on getting a battery refurbished?
I have a dead one that I would like to re-use
