It does put people off cycling to be told that cycling is dangerous, which it isn't....
Well I disagree I think it's hideously dangerous. I've been doing it seriously for a couple of years and I've had more near death experiences from other road users (lorry overtaking and crushing me, cars blasting past at 60mph speed differential with a couple of inches clearance, cars overtaking and cutting in too early etc) than I did on active service in NI when people were deliberately trying to kill me.
We are without doubt second class road users who motorists may injure and kill with near impunity. People should know what they're getting into, the dangers should be highlighted and then maybe we might get some action even if it puts people off starting up.

I don't think insurers are interested in depreciation .
If I wrote off my heavily used 2009 FP2, they'd cover me for a brand new FP2...they wouldn't say they'll only give me £500 for a heavily used second hand one.
No they wouldn't. That would entail wrangling and hassle. They'll stump up then get it back and more in the massive premium hike you'll have for the next 3-5 years.

Good to hear of more people joining the Cult of Audax. By the end of the year you'll have aged ten more, put on a bit of weight and grown a beard.
But jesting aside, I've taken over the running of a 300k event from Oxford in March which a bit of a classic. If you fancy giving it a crack I may even make you a complimentary spokecard or something.
Would that be this perchance? http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/12-504/
Already on the accelerated aging programme having just splashed on an expensive audax/sportive style frame instead of the lightest, fastest. MLC is here!

He probably got a considerably lesser punishment by pleading guilty and has a good chance of loosing his job as well.
Not that this makes the judicial process any better.
1894mk1 good luck with your claim get a good payout that can buy you something to turn 2012 into a superb year.
That was my thinking.

Sprinting from the saddle eg for a gap on a roundabout etc gets my bike pretty light and nervous up front. I'm not exactly a powerhouse (6foot and 78kg). A couple of times the front has got light enough to be pretty twitchy on rougher surfaces and I had a bit of moment the other day when this happened as I was slightly banked. Wheel sort of came off tarmac, jumped accross and then gave a big twitch - yikes.
Bike is steel roadbike with an alloy fork. weighs 20lb, 110 stem, seat middle of the rails, normal race geo, matched wheels. Seems to fit me pretty well with front axle in the correct place when on the hoods.
Is this normal behaviour, a function of the lighter front (alloy fork) or what?

Instant dibs followed by less speedy pm once the warm glow of success has been replaced by the reality of paying - repeat as required to build a collection of ill suited 'bargains' that requires further purchases to be of use or sell where the previous great interest miraculously dissapears leading to considerable loss.
I got an Exposure 'Flare' rearlight for my MTB and commute.
Initial impressions weren't favourable - very bright but the lense was a weak push fit against a rubber o ring and let in water on the first wet ride. Took apart and applied a smear of gasket compound. Worked OK for 6 weeks but now not and about to go back.
Some side visibility but mostly very directional which means the seat post mount needs to be at the right angle - for the seatpost on the 3 bikes I've tried it on it points it too low.
Conversely the Exposure Joystick I have is brilliant, a preused Evans ride it bargain it pumps out a huge amount of focussed light, charges easier (PC usb is really useful) and takes the little red eye thing at the back which is really bright.
