Got 45 miles in on the Honda today. My first proper ride on the bike.

It has much wider tyres than my last cb550 and as a result feels reassuringly planted. Oh and standard bars are nice.

The bike is from 1980 so hasn't had an MOT in years.

My insurance policy with RAC requested an estimated annual mileage for the year, to which I entered 999 miles.

At no point in the process or in my documents are the current miles on the odometer of the bike requested.

26 inch mtb wheels - Deore hubs, 7 speed, Mavic rims. Feel absolutely bombproof to me. Freewheel could do with replacing (pawls stick a bit) but it has never bothered me enough to do it. Relatively little wear to the brake track for the age.

The cup has less sound proofing than normal, so there's not much to dampen the sound.

Also 172s have a hidden exhaust tip, which I think makes the noise resonate through the car more than if it were simply exiting the back bumper.

Edit: Does anyone on here have a mig that I can use for 30 minutes? one of my exhaust retainer nuts has broken off the body.

I'm having the opposite experience after changing my exhaust. My old one was rotten and crumbling so I picked up a stainless steel version from a friend, and it's doing my head in.

I normally only use panniers for road tours which often include gravel. For any singletrack they're no good.
