I'm running shimano 7 speed downtube shifters (fitted to bar-end housings on tri-bars) with a campag 8-speed block (the levers have a 'spare' click to make it up to 8!). Works fine!

when I was a car mechanic the snap-on pozidrive screw drivers had pretty soft tips. They used to wear pretty quickly, but there was no issue getting the tips renewed by the 'man in the van'.
