What pub does the SE drinks take place in? of the few pages I skim read it seems like it's been changed a few times over the years.
I may pop in for an introductory pint this eve on the way home but can anyone tell me what the bike locking options are like outside as I'm on my commuter (read: most expensive bike) today cos it didn't occur to me to ride the pub hack and I get antsy locking it up in unknown places cos it's not been fully paid for yet (cycle2work).

when they call you to offer to set your program for no additional cost, and you turn up, snip and then you get a 45 minute session with Rachel instead
my gym did this on my induction and it turns out she was a fucking receptionist there (her picture was in the joining folder i was given with her job title underneath).
I told her I was training for my first ever 5k on a 9 week zero to hero type running plan that finished on the week of the race which was in a couple weeks so I didn't want to do anything that would stop me from running that week as I needed to keep training or else I may not be able to run the whole race (i started at 19.5 stone so 5k was a long way for me at the time).
the daft fucking bint took me through nothing but leg exercises using much too heavy weights so for the next 3 days I could barely walk let alone run and she completely fucked up my training.

I'm signed up for lots of two wheeled suffering over the summer so I've got a weight/fitness targets that I cannot miss.
Just signed up for my first sprint distance triathlon in May and I've been a member of a triathlon group in Greenwich so training with them a lot for the past few months so that should be enough to keep me motivated for the next few months.
am also toying with the idea of doing an olympic distance event in late june but I need to assess my swimming performance to see if the training for that is realistic in the time frame (I want to finish in a respectable time not just merely finish).

I just got my first singlespeed bike but I'm unsure what gear ratio I should use. currently it's 42/16 but I dunno if that's the best bet for me.
the bike is only meant to be a pub bike and for the odd blast about town.
as the bike (se draft lite) is a cheap hack I don't want to spend too much on it so I'll probably stick with the 42 chainring for now but will I improve the ride at all by moving to a different freewheel (will also have a crack at fixed when I eventually get some spd's sorted) if so what sort of tooth count should I go for? more or less than 16?

I have a couple of locks for my bikes now
krypto fagh chain (kept at work due to weight)
krypto min fagh d (carried around in my bag but have a fabric horse in the post for it at the moment)
krypto mini evo (have bracket on my commuter bike but also got a fabric horse on the way for this too).
krypto 4ft cable (carried around in backpack to wrap round front wheel and then lock up into one of the mini d's)ignoring the use of the fagh chain completely as locking up at work is well covered I'm thinking that I need another lock as my insurance requires a sold secure silver or higher rated lock and the mini fagh doesnt fit the bill (which is really fucking stupid by the way) so while I use it around frame, rear wheel and fixing point as it's my strongest lock I still have to use the mini evo as an anchor around the frame to an 'immovable object' or my insurance isn't valid.
the problem with that is it's really fucking hard to lock up anything else once the mini evo is around the frame and the fixing point (when I can find one it fits around) so in order to keep my front wheel 'secure' I also need to use a kryptonite cable which I'm sure if a thief had come across my bike up until now would have made them laugh for a second as they chopped it and walked off with my wheel regardless.
at the moment I'm thinking the version of the mini evo with the long shackle (24cm i believe) would instead allow me to lock front wheel and frame to a mounting point and the mini fagh can keep doing what it does with the frame, rear wheel and mounting point negating the need for a cable at all. I can carry the fagh mini on my belt and the long shackle mini evo on my frame for most journeys and if need be use the spare mini evo in the other fabric horse if I'm feeling extra paranoid about my destination and want a third lock just to increase the overall amount of time needed to get the bike free.
the main issue is I don't know if the long shackle mini evo would reduce it's effectiveness and make it more prone to leverage attacks or if I should perhaps look at another brand of lock as I already feel a bit of a krypto whore right now as it is.
edit: just found the fully fledged evo 4 d-lock for the same price (£30) perhaps that's the best route for me?

does anyone know if the shimano m324 would work with straps like powergrips or holdfasts?
I'm after a best of both worlds solution for my new SS pub hack/beater where I can run fixed with clipless or flats.
how bad an idea would it be to have the straps hanging under the pedal if i was using the clipless side? I guess there's a risk of them catching going round corners but I'm struggling to think what they could feasibly catch on.

I have one of the on one tops and it's a fairly standard cut rather than a jersey.
when i wore mine over xmas my family assumed it was a cardigan type top not a cycling top.
they're good. just be careful how you wash it, mine went through a 30degree wash and is much more snug than I would like (nothing to do with all the food i ate over xmas though, oh no...).

there's a good 50/50 chance if you cheerfully try to point something out to another cyclist in london they'll either be appreciative or look at you like you told them you raped their cat.
one rider I saw on the way home had a blindingly bright rear light on the back of his bike, the trouble was it was mounted on his seatpost and when he sat in the saddle his t-shirt/jersey covered it completely. when we both stopped at the same set of lights I very cheerfully pointed this out to him and all i got in response was a look like he'd just chomped on a lemon he didn't even utter a single word of reply... cnut

just got back from a supply run to the local co-op and as I was waiting to pull out onto the main road there was a bike ninja with no lights weaving in and out in front of the line of cars he was holding up, then he decided he'd had enough of holding up the traffic and did (an impressive but pretty fucking stupid) rear wheel bunny hop/wheelie type thing from the road up the kerb and onto the pavement which at 4.30pm in the centre of greenwich was unsurprisingly quite busy.
i'd like to think that natural selection eventually takes care of the darwin candidates but sadly if it does they then get turned into statistics to beat the more sensible road cyclists with in the press.
I stupidly bought a shit set of cateye lights with my bike when i got it and now they run as backups
now i run a smart 35 lux front as well and 2x smart r1 1-watt rears. but i keep eyeing up the magicshine and them cree/p7 torches on dealextreme so an upgrade is probably due soon (or i may wait until autumn rolls around).

glad to hear you like your draft lite Simple, I'll be getting mine tomorrow. was after a pub hack and for the money CRC were asking I couldn't resist but i price matched with evans so i got a free 6 week service and can pick it up ready to ride from the shop plus I can just take it back to the shop if there are any problems.
out of curiosity what chain tensioner are you using?

here's my commuting bike (this was taken when it was fresh from the bike shop, toe clips are long gone now honest)...
and this sweaty drunken moustache twirling idiot is me...
usually to be seen somewhere between farringdon and greenwich via deptford/jamaica road/tooley street, am a friendly bloke so say hi if you see me.

That's my route too up to london bridge then up through bank to farringdon. usually hit deptford church street between 7.30 and 8.15am, I'm normally on my specialized tricross triple but there's a chance I may be on my bright pink se draft lite ss too if I'm going to the pub that eve.
