I probably didn't phrase that well : /
Whilst we've got the same muscle groups as the menz and they basically all respond/work in the same way, the menz are generally looking to get different things out of their weight training to women.
Not that I'm falling for that "aggh! I'm a lady, I can't do weights as I'll bulk up" bullshit either.
Essentially, I want to build more muscle and have less fat. Actually have some semblance of a power to weight ratio happening rather than weight to power...!

I can't tell if you're actually being sarcastic but I already do ride a bike. Everyday. Road miles at weekend, spinning classes generally twice a week, bmx.
I'm in the strength/weight training thread because I'd heard endless cardio isn't the be all and end all. Lots of people on this forum who also, actually ride bikes, also seem to think there's something in weight training, hence my questions here.
@Tenderloin @starfish&coffee and @JesperXT thanks for your actual helpful input. If you google "weight training for beginners" there's quite clearly endless amounts of info to look at. Having that info filtered by people who can comment on it's usefulness is much appreciated.

Can people point me in the direction of some decent online type resource for a weights programme for beginners and/or females?
Basically want to build more muscle to be actually stronger in the legs, especially thighs but don't want to neglect top half either innit. I have especially feeble shoulders I would like to be way less feeble.

Inspired by some @Cazakstan activity on Strava I was wondering if yous lot* might like some afterworker type action, starting from June when we've got some decently long days.
Was thinking of using the TNRC route database but happy to use other routes, and we go for a set day each week - or alternate between say a Tues and a Thurs etc. Also thinking that we alternate roughly between South/Kent and North/Essex each week. I need some motivation to ride my road bike moar as I keep forgetting how much I actually like doing that.
Won't be super fast as I'm not super fast but would like to cover ~30 miles reasonably swiftly so as not to be in dark village lanes in the pitch black innit and home not too late. Roadie douchebag mode and fixed/SS equally welcomed
NB: am not offering to lead every ride either - thinking it would be nice to take turns and people learn that leading rides is not terrifying, like.
*When I say "yous lot" I'm am thinking of those who identify as female/mostly use this part of the forum but non-knob males welcome too if they appreciate they will be playing/riding by our rules (aware that makes me sound like a knob now!)
So it's been a bit of an organisational shambles/kitten herding affair so far but I possibly should have thought this through a bit better. Sorry ladeez
But drum roll I've got a bit of a better idea about people's availability/needs/blah blah blah here's a sort of vague plan. Please come, if you can be arsed with the faffing about. Selling it, ain't I? ; )
Thurs 11th June: Lee Valley Road Circuit
Tues 16th June: Eynsford way-isn, leaving Catford at 7pm
**Sat 27th: TNRC Ingatestone route: leaving morning, back by lunchtime type pace, people can ride to/from start if they want, innit -

So several times a week there are HGV's parked in the cycle path that runs along Rodney Road in SE1 going into the re-development of the Aylesbury aka Elephant Park (puke) Once again, HGV parked up this am.
This cycle path is part of a quieter/safer promoted by pass of Elephant roundabouts and Rodney Road is getting increasingly busy with all of the building sites around Elephant.
When Lend Lease started re-developing the site they had a big fancy cycle marking and Dr Bike and free coffee type event to let cyclists know what was happening and how they almost definately wouldn't be trying to kill anyone with the lorries going to and from the site.
Have flagged this a number of times to Lend Lease who manage the site and Southwark Cyclists branch of LCC via the old twitters but not so much of a response from either of these orgs.
Before I go any higher...is this the sort of thing Roadsafe deal with? Also, are Lend Lease actually breaking any laws parking in cycle paths (that have a solid white line)
Surely if they are part of that FORS accreditation thing, they are told to stay the f**k out of cycle paths, right??

Awww. Swizz! I think a couple of other BMX bandit usual suspects are doing that like @Doctor_Cake and @blowfish ?
Anyone else interested? @clefty @zeez @Cazakstan

I've never cycled 100miles before (and my mileage generally ain't what it used to be) so will have a think before I commit myself. It'd deffo have to be gears rather than fixed too as I did 40 miles fixed this weekend and my knees were not happy #old
Am deffo more likely to be keen with a circular route rather than cycle out/train home as the train is always borderline stressfull and what's the point of cycling to the seaside when you can't play the arcades cos everyone is staring at you in your lycra etc etc?

Cheers @dst
Compound = something that's working whole/or lots of the body, right, rather than just something isolation like shoulder presses or bicep curls? And noted re: doing things. My only other experience of doing weights is in Body Pump classes and the techiques of some people (and that the teacher lets go unchecked) wound me up no end...
