@kat has been swimming in the tidal Thames lately with a group and I found this happening next month: http://totallythames.org/events/info/great-river-swim
It's a fiver but FREE SWIMMING HAT to first 100 people there. Fancy it?? The poetry afterwards can do one, obvs #heathen

I listen to music so I can't hear my wheezing and thundering, pounding heavy footfall!
You should have mentioned drama and outrage earlier, not to mention petting dogs which would have made me view ParkRun's waaaay more favourably.
So I should push small children into the watery bits of Peckham Rye and pet other people's dogs whilst ignoring marshals I can't hear over my Kelly Clarkson? Got it!

Nice work @Chalfie will watch this thread with interest.

Heh. Thanks @Greenbank
I was trying to find something like that on the site but clearly failed miserably! I need to carry my phone to track all the things so might as well listen to some music too I reckon ; )

Ok, so I'm going to give ParkRun a go tomorrow- q: is it frowned upon to run with music/headphones/not make small talk?
The barcodes and competition excite me. Having to be sociable, less so #curmudgeon

Oosh! Lengthy post is lengthy but some interesting food for thought there.
I was doing 3x 30 mins a week but have dropped back to a 1 or 2 a week after being on hols so I reckon I'll start with getting back into the habit of three runs a week for a couple of weeks. Deffo need to get to grips with pacing myself. I get frustrated if I feel I'm running slowly but then push myself too early and I've found with all exercise (cycling, swimming, whateves) that it seems to take me longer than most people to warm up but once I am warmed up/in that sweet spot I can go longer than other people of similar fitness levels...
I've taken against park runs because I've got a dislike of mass sports activities but I really should give it a go before I dismiss it outright.
Also ver good approach to running to work with the walk 1st and last miles. Thanks!

Spotted @mrs_socks yesterday at Peckham Rye heading North down Rye Lane. Hiyaaa! I was disappointed to see only a smidge of your new mermaid hair :(
Shortly after spotted crazy stack courier guy heading South along Peckham Rye. Comment to the husband about crazy stack courier guy's complete lack of road safety and he said that he'd nearly crashed with him the other day and tole him "faacking hell. You've only just come back to work recovering from a broken back, how about trying to keep it that way?" so hopefully Mr Poots has resolved that issue for all of London's road users and he's seen the error of his ways.

Hullo running thread - have recently completed the NHS Couch to 5k and wondering what next. Lots of conflicting advice from various sources on t'internet so I thought I'd add to that conflicting advice.
I'm not really bothered about entering races but wanted to continue running as it turns out I kind of like it. The only goals I've got really are to be able to run to work by the winter when it's going to be less advisable to be running around dark parks by myself. Work is 5 miles and I can run 5k in just under 30mins at the mo.
Should I just concentrate on getting more comfortable with running 5k for a couple of weeks and stick with that distance - endurance with come with sticking at it, right? Or should I be following some sort of programme?

Hello functional thread - apols if this has been covered elsewhere but can someone point me to a rear pannier rack to go on my eyelet free fixie skiddah?
would people recommend something to attach to seat post orget a rack with eyelet holes and those thingymajigs that you can add to seatstays that create something for rack to attach to.
Hope I haven't blinded any of the less technically minded with my lingo, obvs.
Ta!

Right...having done some thinking, I reckon later start times are possible but may feature trains homes, and those that want to ride home, how does that sound?
Need to have a think/tweak some routes but imma going to update the 1st post in this thread but for now I'm going to go to Lee Valley this Thurs (the 11th) eve to get some miles in and it'd be lovely to see some/any of you!

Yes! I am! @kat is up for it too.
I get the feeling the tide will work in your favour but you should be familiar/confident with wild swimming type action e.g being ok with not having a side to grab onto or being able to touch the bottom? Which I'm guessing you are what with the rowing, right?
