Here's John's Bill Build; my 1975 Bill Philbrook touring frameset currently being readied for the coming spring and summer. The original paint had gone matt after years of storage so I had it repainted in Ford Arizona Gold - Dad had a Granada in this colour. Frame built lugless with this unusual hybrid headtube/headset treatment, and built for direct mount Mafac cantilevers and one set of non-invasive (Philbrook trademark) bottle bosses.
Hope you like it: Philbrooks are few in number.

Tricky, which Roberts frame numbering can be: post 1979 they - apparently - changed to a six digit numbering system but deviated from that when building frames for the trade ! Five digits would suggest pre 1979...I think it is early and a Penge frame but sticking my neck out. My two early frames have three digit numbers and are Sydenham frames.

Cat and pigeons spring to mind ! I've not seen a Roberts number like that - i.e large numerals, and not in the same position as it is on mine. Roberts stamps, early and late, tend to be small numerals: where's my thinking cap ? Re the brake cable brazings, you never know original customer may have specified not to have them. Late frames, like my fillet brazed one tend to have a sleeve type braze on, one under each end of the top tube leaving a bare wire between.

For me what makes it look early-ish is the lack of brake cable braze ones on the tt. You say you only have a number on the steerer - Roberts frame numbers are either on the BB or rear dropout (and of course on the steerer).
Btw, that style of seat stay is called shot in, a better picture would help. -

Plan with the fillet brazed frame is for Winston to restore/repaint in pale green pearl (original colour) with period (80s) C-Record - have all the components + rare dark green San Marco Rolls, Cinelli, Mavic rims. The early frame will go to Geoff (Roberts) as his Dad built it. I see your F/B frame is earlier than mine - to me, it looks earlier than the frame number suggests !

This frameset, #150 is a Charlie Roberts (Chas & Geoff's Dad) frame and was built during the Sydenham period - before Anerley and Croydon.
I have two early Roberts, both before #150, others have commented on #150s modifications and I'm sure they are correct - later than the frameset.

What's wrong ? I asked for a mod to delete, pissed off by the some of the folk on this forum. I'm not selling the Yates here - people buy people first - so here I am risking a ton of abuse by giving the specifications:
- Dave Yates tourer (2002, have confirmation from DY) ST = 51cms, TT = 56cms, this is a sloping top tube lugless frameset in mint metallic blue condition (1000kms @ most from new)
- Shimano 8 speed transmission (rd, fd, shifters & cassette)
- Ofemga Alpine (rare) triple chainset
- Avid cantilever brakes
- Shimano Sora hubs and EXE rims (700x28 tyres currently fitted)
- Cane Creek aheadset
- ITM stem and Cinelli 'bar
- Campagnolo Chorus brake levers
- SPD pedals (generic)
- Kalloy seatpost
- Brookes Pro saddle (not included) but decent saddle included.
It is mint, and a good price at £350. I'm off now.
