It’s often all people can choose, so I don’t think that’s quite right. There’s very little diversity in builders in the UK, and we have one of the most centralised anti-competitive sectors in the west.
They’re also largely just representing their own interests, and responding to too many incentives for capturing land value uplift.

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect, but just on the drive side. I have no idea if it causes any real-world effect though?
The spokes with the heads on the outside have the most direct route to the rim and better connection at the hub (blue and red in that image), so on both sides they should be in tension under load (trailing, so pointing to the rear if you're looking at the spokes on the top of the hub).

Oh totally. This is them starting to see the writing on the wall, and it’s the best they can do — drop the overt neoliberalism and double down on culture wars. It’s satisfying to see them squirm, and hopefully in doing so they’ll allow the Overton window to move to the left quicker than it otherwise would have done.
It’s positive in that they’re fucked, but also labour might not be so trapped into a middling ‘sound money’ ‘growth before reduction in inequality’ set of policies.

Gove’s speech on modernising conservatism:

Some positive sounds on inequality and even solidarity, but, christ alive, there’s some absolute shit in there

Clearout: Paul racer brakes, Berthoud mudguards, fixed/free wheelset (free) and some bluemels (free)
I ordered them back in summer direct from Berthoud. I think they only had the 40mm ones in stock in black at the time, and perhaps only a few pairs. I took a (bad) gamble trying to squeeze some larger than 32mm tyres under them, when I really needed the 50mm ones.
Hope they continue to make them in black because they look fantastic.

Something that fits in clips for foot retention, and relatively minimal I guess? Usually black/dark and low rise
