It’s brilliant. Watched it just a couple of months back for the first time and while it’s sort-of dated in a way, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes it quite refreshing when compared to modern sci-fi.

I watched this yesterday, and there's a few nuggets of insight about the various organisational forms over the years. It's from a left perspective, but the guy does at least remain somewhat neutral — he's just a total train nerd, and it's a nice watch.

The area is already very car-brained, with a load of big box stores in Charlton. There’s lots of redevelopment in the area, but changing the road network to something more suitable for habitation, as well as providing better public transport seems to have been forgotten.

They’re silly and joyful, if a bit middle class. Why the hate?

Don’t suppose you know if any of the campaigns against it are getting anywhere these days? From who I follow it’s a pretty dire situation.

Yeah, it’s depressing. There’s talk of more distribution centres opening in the area too so it’ll be chock full of HGVs. Which when looking at the plans seems like it was the whole point of the project anyway, and that’s on top of private vehicles.

For a spot that’s in desperate need of a public transport connection across the river, it’s the worst possible outcome.

Wow, that letter says exactly the opposite of any traffic modelling done on the project.

I’m totally confused to be honest. The only response I got when questioning it was “well the parts for your car were expensive” and reiterating multiple times that “that’s the labour price, and that’s what the parts cost” while pointing at the invoice.

Went for a service before the MOT, and they initially indicated it would be ~£250.

Turned up after it was ready to a £450 bill. Lovely surprise, that. Ffs.

Yeah, agreed. I wonder if a 'light touch' policy like this might get some backing from the Labour right crowd though. Might soften their ideas on rent control a little I guess?
