wow couldn't even ask for more good vibes if I tried! thanks for the replies so far.
andyfallsof + Tiswas - You have been pm'd!
Marcho - thanks for the links! might get those just in case. RE previous questions... front cones, ball bearings + axle diameter are all smaller on the front than the rear:
Rear has 1/4" ball bearings, axle is 153mm long, 9-10mm diameter from outer thread edge to thread edge, 26 tpi and the nut itself looks to be 17mm wide whilst the diameter of the inside or smallest bit of the race on the cone is about 7mm. will pm you in case you don't see this.
skully - cheers bro, comment worth every penny. I've been going pretty leisurely with the project out of necessity but I maybe rather stupidly made my first ride a semi-restoration project in itself = mega frustration and impatience and I just want to get the damn thing on the road now!! New problems keep popping up.. originally I thought this would be great as by the time I'm riding it I'll know everything inside out... but with the time it's taken.. not too sure now. yahnahwahmesayin'?

Yo, new guy here. This is for my first build since the old Mongoose BMX (RIP) when I was 15. Seriously craving the freedom and mobility now and just neeeed to get on the road. Tubes driving me mad. Bike needs the following in order to take its maiden voyage and for me to become one with it. Spent a lot of time with my finger on the pulse but keep missing out on what I need so thought I’d post my shopping list for you friendly folks. v.short on dough. Live in SW1 and often at GF’s in W4. Don’t mind travelling around central LDN a bit on the boris bike. Will accept posted items haha.
19t 1/8 Cog , reasonable condition…
MKS Sylvan Track Pedals + some steel Clips and good quality straps that won’t stretch. (was gonna go double but just don’t think I’ll be able to afford it?)… I was thinking around the 25ish mark for the lot. Don’t mind having to get them separately, or if battered, as long as threads and axles or whatever you call those bits are smooth.
Any spare Tubs you got lying around? Got these 32/40h Airlites on Fiammes (yellow front red rear) and they’re all I’ve got (canne afford clinchers atm) so Im gonna go tubular. But Tubs are expensiiiiiive?!?
front light that will get me noticed.
If you got anything it'd mean the world.
Domo Arigatooo everyone!

Probably a massive long shot but can anyone help?!
Opened up my first pair of hubs last night.... cone on the fixed rear 40 hole British hub airlite is pitted. NO idea where to find suitable replacement and I'm suspecting it's going to be a bit of a chase, annoying as I'm in a bit of a hurry.
As I'm on my first build I'm still getting my head around the specifics so not entirely sure what axle threading, width etc and how close a match the cones have to be. Researched them on sites such as
http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk/airlites.html
and a la
http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=E3522AD1-9F82-4689-90EB-E205D0DD96DD&Enum=110&AbsPos=9
...but could do with some help really I guess. Also... lastly, the other 3 cones look oookaayy but sort of suspect if you get my drift so if it's poss I wouldn't mind replacing the lot. Front is 32 classic styleeee. Haven't got much cash to burn at all either. Any advice/help welcome!
Cheers guys and gals! crosses fingers

ahhhhh furious tiles, I would most definitely have you in my dream bathroom for sure, as long as you're not too enraged in the mornings. couldn't do that mate. anyway you're a godsend. I like this place. I'll build it up first then ride it on in there and see what they have to say.
Double cheers Jaw, will have to whip out the camera over the weekend.

cheers for the tips Jaw! It feels quite light but I've got no experience for comparison. serial number is 1069 so maybe its from '69? Shorter doesn't seem to exist anymore which is a shame as I would have taken it in there and got the lowdown that way. Also the front fork is drilled and it came with Campagnolo Pista cranks and bottom bracket. I'll have to take some pictures and stick em up when I have the chance.

Hello Comrades!
Been reading up on here for a while. Now that I am assembling (and noobily attempting to fix) the parts that will eventually become my first ever steed, mount, prancer, stallion, my champion companion of the streets, my war horse...... ahem... I thought I should sign up and join propah loike.
I've acquired an old Alan Shorter track bike/road path/grass track/fixed time trial/I have no F**KING idea what it is and what its made of (can anyone help me here?), that needs work, so trial and error time atm.
I have no pedals, the bars and stem are FUGLY, the brooks is ripped so I've araldite'd it and fed it lots of Proofide, I need a front brakeset cos I'm scared about braking myself, and the airlite track hubs are on ooooold Fiamme tubs + the gear ratio or whatever its called came as 52/17 which from what I can work out will also break me. All this plus add-ons like locks lights and clothing is costing a relative bomb so it looks like I'll be doing some winter roadside tub gluing for the immediate future.... LOVE IT!
..... blahhh blaahh hiiiii nice to meeet you all I have many many questionsssss.
I reckon a stew thread should be started, Soup vs Stew WARS
