ah right! For MTB 1:2 used to be the target, so a 32t 16t would be ideal for plodding around normal stuff.
For road I assumed (sheldon strikes) 1:3 was the norm. but your 48/18 comes out more like 1:2.55-2.66 sort of ratio. Guess thats probably more sensbile as i'll be commuting up that reet big hill from river bank to muswell hill :/ -

pitty steal?
Seriously, sometimes I think it needs to be done. Had my hands on an only partially locked beasty in glasgow 2weeks ago, was something pretty nice (mish mash of parts but nice) with decent looking D lock through front wheel and down tube, so could wheel away. Poked at it for long enough seeing what was what, then the guy turned up wondering why I was prodding his bike. He then realised he hadn't actually locked it to the bike station thing and did so, but wasn't happy about it. Like it was my fault for making him come out of his office and lock his bike properly. I should have taken it, would have saved me my bus fares for those few days :/

14: Random track cog, 16T, 1/8" (used for a few months, plenty of life left) £Free
21: Random saddle 2, black with white tail bit (no idea what it is, has a 'G' on the back, someone left it here after changing saddles) £FreePERFECT for what I need right now. Live in Cumbria though (phone reckons thats 412km from the nearest Boris!), would it be possible to post them or is that a bit much? Obv can send some £££ for this :)

Cheers tel, but what does that mean?
From trawling the interweb I figured a bb type lock ring either side would position for chain line and hold on place for braking, or am I missing something?
how do track cogs prevent from unscrewing on normal dedicated track/fixed hubs?
Apologies for appearing useless, mtb mechanic is my background and up until 5 months ago I considered anything with tyres less than 2.25" a pram like vehicle only to be ridden by men that shave things other than their face and wear lyra :p -

So gave up on my dawes 27"wheels and any hope of finding a fresher front to replace rotton steel job.
Managed to find a pair of mint mavic gp4's on shimano 600's with a 6speed freehub? Andan aging set of gt30 'lyontyres' tubs. About 700c x 25Q: the tyres are crustywalled and probably won't last an hour of any sortof out door use.
Peeling the tubs away from the rims it looks like there could be some sort of flange down there. Is it possible to mount a normal pair of beaded (non folding) tyres on there? Also that pesky shimano 600 freehub, possible to replace with single cog (ss kit type with spacers).
Cheers!

thermal might be your best bet. Used it to unseize SO SO SO many things.
strip the frame and bung it in th freezer. Do NOT wet it. might need a chest freezer not one of those crappy little ktichen things.
get 1 or 2 kettles worth of water boiling. Clamp up your frame in a workstand by the seattube (DO NOT TOUCH THE SEATTUBE) pour the water around the top tube, seat stays and dribble a bit down the seat tube but not as far up as the clamp. You might find pouring at a steady slow rate the best. Once you've emptied the first kettle (2litres?) with your gloves on give the frame a good old tweak while standing on the stand to prevent it moving (unless you have a proper shop job wiht a slab of steel on the ground). 95% chance you'll get it outObviously carbon isn't going to expand and contract like metal would, but i've used it sucessfully on all but ONE aluminium post and got a carbon one out (easton ea70 mtb post inside 90's kona l;dome). I'm pretty sure you'll see some sort of movement in a positive direction ;)

OrangeUK.
first 2 handsets were defanatly new boxed, never been touched until I got them. This third on, suspect packaging, some internal baggies missing, battery was just shoved under the lip unpackaged and charger didn't have its tie around it. I reckon its a recon unit though they are mean't to ship new for new within the first 28days.As a test (for my own purposes) I fully charged it monday night, and turned it on 8am yesterday. Its had all the apps killed and been running in flight mode since then (so basically just a dumb unit). its not 11.30pm on the second day and we're down to 37% battery life. Pretty freaking pathetic considering it is doing absolutly nothing atall!
Had a huge barney with someone in an orange shop on the strand on the weekend, their argument being 'batteries aren't included in our warrenty' and had to retire before I said more than I should. Really had a poor service from orange, shipping a duff unsuable phone to begin with then dragging their heels at every opportunity and lack of knowledge from call centre staff on how to deal with ANYTHING. Not to mention an ongoing bill dispute. Grrrrr.Still, their better than 02!!

anybody with a stock galaxy S. What sort of battery life are you getting?
During what I would call light usage (20-30mins internet, no gps, hourly email grab, 1x30min phone call and sending about 40texts) I'm only just getting 8-10hours of out it. When I check the battery usage, its mostly system and it is generally only out of signal for about 15minutes, so its not that.
Its the third replacement handset i've had (1st phone hung up when it felt like it, 2nd one had about a dozen hot pixels, 3rd one has one hot pixel which I can just about live with) and when it shipped to me the battery wasn't packaged, was just shoved in the end of the box. I'm assuming its a recon handset or recon/used battery hence its life is shoddy and pathetic compared to the first 2 handsets.
Heavy usage = 2hour battery life. Unreal. I replaced my old phone (HTC/Sony Xperia X1) with this samsung piece of crap after its 'light usage' battery life fell below 1.5days (originally 3) and was quoted £65+postage for a genuine new battery. GRrrrr.
TBH on the regents/paddington just stand up, the basins are about 3ft deep and the navigation is maybe 5ft? way over hackney down to the thames is deeper though.
have a bit of a story, searching for it rather than type again, RE canals, bike theft, kids, regents, chase....
