The Steamboat ride was fine. I have only done a couple, but the ones I have done, the controls were just on the road so you couldn't miss them, maybe we were lucky with those, or is the Steamboat more in keeping with the way the controls are? For us, the Egypt sign was fine, 0 !!!
Other than the Didcot bike path, but you can live with that, the route was great, loved the park and the final 40ks after that was fast
I'd do it again

To be honest, I wasn't interested in doing the full 250ish ks so I booked the medium route, so I pulled a Klein Attitude frame off of the wall that has been sitting there restored and built it up, gave it to Mrs Davroos as I was riding a Klein Attitude in Dolomite.
The ride was great except the Kleins were way to stiff, every cobblestone I felt. The instructions said, 4 pave and 15 hills, but the pave just kept coming. The ups were ok, it was the flats/down that were killing us both.
Hitting the 2nd loop, the first hill was the Kopperburg and I told Mrs Davroos to get ready to jump off as people were having accidents !!! I managed to weave my way up to the top whereas she jumped ship before someone ran into her near the top. The hills kept coming and coming, but we rode them all. The Paderburg wasn't as scary as people made it out to be, and then we smashed the 11ks into the centre.
It was a lovely day so we parked the bikes up in the town square and we chilled out just drinking a few beers, as you do as this is Belgium !!! 90 minutes later, we took off to finish.
Awesome event, I am taking a Merlin next year, I think titanium will be better than alu !!!

After riding around Bendigo in Western Victoria, I moved on over to Adelaide to ride the stage of the Tour Down Under. Having ridden last years Etape and London 100, I was hoping for a similar experience, it kind of was, but there was also havoc out on the roads !!! It wasn't a closed road event, we shared a freeway for the first 13ks which was uphill and then we hit the country roads. There were cars behind us, trying to overtake and cars on the other side of the road !!! The police did stop the traffic at intersections so that we would have the right of way

It was a pretty fast route, but could have been faster with closed roads. The KOM section up to Myponga dam was ok, but the views out to the coast were great. Amazingly, I did not see any accidents. I completed the ride, dragging my girlfriend as I am her dedicated domestique in 6 hours. The food at the end was pretty crappy but after an 1.5 hours rest, we headed on back into Adelaide. The total distance for the day was 239ks, pretty big effort for her to average 25kp/h for the whole day

I think I would do it again, as it was kind of fun and it beats cycling in the cold Northern winters !!!

Last weekend, I was riding with my girlfriend doing the Surrey Legs of Steel route, roads were icey, people were falling off going up Box Hill, average temp of 0, and now here we are in Victoria !!!
Off the plane, drive from Sydney to country Vic to her Mothers house, build the bikes, get to bed at 02:00, alarm goes off at 05:30 and we set out for a small 114k loop.
We headed off into the country, and within a K, 4 kangaroos started hopping beside us, they then jumped the fence and hopped in front of us and into the next paddock !!!
The plan was to ride up Mount Alexander, down the other side, do a loop and then back up Mount Alexander and back home. As we hit Mount A, within the first K, Mrs Davroos picked up a puncture and as her dedicated domestique, I fixed it and then she insisted on going back down and starting again so that her strava time would be better !!! Up we went, so different from England, there was nobody, not a car nor bike on the road, and up the top, we found a couple of wallabies who were more interested in us
Back down the other side, we saw one cyclist coming up, and into a 30k loop. It was starting to heat up when we came back towards Mount A, but the route we had chosen, included a dirt road
We started the climb, and this side was loads steeper, but we got to the top, with Mrs Davroos pulling the QOM !!!
Back down and 5ks from the finish, my chain decided to snap !!! She rode off, whilst a friendly local chucked my bike in the back of his ute

Day 2, we decided to do a longer flatter route and the temp was also a lot better, it was quite cold at 14 !!!
Amazingly, the headwind decided to follow us wherever we rode, also the route was very undulating and Mrs Davroos was suffering from the QOM attacks from the day before !!! So we crawled along, the average time slipping down whilst she died !!!
Eventually the ride ended at 122ish ks.

Great weather and awesome riding. The lack of traffic here is amazing !!!
