My two cents is that tax evasion is out of reach of all bar those with lots of disposable income.
Well, not really: I got a quote for a job last week including a lower cash-in-hand rate; I doubt that's just lower transaction costs.
It's hardly as odious as the elaborate off-shore version though, partly because less effort and forethought go into it.

The Integration Leadership Team met in Milan recently to review and discuss the synergies that have been identified so far.
synergies = people they can do without
... reviewed the value of the synergies that have been estimated for each workstream so far,
= how much they can save by firing those people
held deep dives into the top areas of opportunity, and started exploring the quick wins.
= figuring out who will be quickest and easiest to chop, ie, non-union, short notice period, genuinely doing nothing at all useful vs. needing some replacement ...

Funny how plod can trawl hours of CCTV when a ped gets knocked down by a rogue rider, yet curiously don't have the time/resources when it's a cyclist on the floor
To be fair the ped - a "social media manager" - only got results after harassing them on Twitter.
Maybe we should find out how, and then we'll be able to shame the Met into responding the same way.
-
The Met police want to talk to whichever cyclist it was that witnessed this.
I have no idea how to link to twitter however.>
Here we go:
Officers from @MPSRTPC are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a lorry and cyclist in #Victoria http://t.co/wYvTTdxBJ3

... add one of the two filters to the URL manually
Go to the thread, search conversation for "authorId:53946", tick comments, get something like this:

(@peter_v - that authorId is you. It's in your profile URL).

How about this search?
If you follow the link and then look at the right sidebar, you can see which boxes I (un)checked to get that.

I did the Thames Meander half last weekend (the summer version) - it was nice, although I don't really have much to compare it with.
Looks like there were about 600 people (including the full marathon), but even though the path isn't very wide, it wasn't too crowded: a couple of spots near the start were tricky for overtaking, but otherwise it was fine.

Also: I like that table. How did you do it?
Looks like you just have to write (or paste) the HTML - I can't see a clever markdown shortcut
Tech Guest Sessions per Day User Sessions per Day Session Duration Bounce Rate Posts per Day vBulletin 10k 6k 9m 10s 37% 2.2k Microcosm 2.5k 7k 11m 53s 23% 2.4k =

Does that mean its not ok for me to call said person out, because it's their decision, not mine?
But the usual assumption is they're doing something dangerous because they don't know any better/haven't thought about it/are sleepwalking to their squishy doom.
That's very different to having made a conscious, informed decision, which admittedly seems pretty unlikely.

Why is the chord the diameter of any circle? That's only true in the case where the chord goes through the centre of the circle.
The chord has some length. I can choose to draw a circle with a diameter of that length. Therefore the chord is the diameter of some circle.
It's deduction. Because the formula exists it must exist for all diameters of room and central column. Therefore you could have a circular room with a 0 diameter column, at which point the chord length is the diameter of a circular carpet,
-
Could you show your working on how you derive the multiple of pi that you the area from the chord length. I've run out of room on the paper bag that I'm doodling on.
Could you show your working on how you derive the multiple of pi that you the area from the chord length. I've run out of room on the paper bag that I'm doodling on.
If the chord (c) is just the diameter of another circle with the same area, you get
A=π r^2 where r=c/2, so
A=π (c/2)^2 = π/4 c^2Note there's no radius, of either circle, in the result.
The long way is to take the area:
A=π R^2 - π r^2
A=π (R^2 - r^2)and find a way to relate the two radii to the chord length.
So, draw the donut, with the chord of unknown length c. Then draw a radius length r of the inner circle, meeting the chord in the middle at a right angle, and a radius length R of the outer circle, meeting the end of the chordYou now have a right triangle, with hypotenuse R and other sides r and c/2, so
R^2 = r^2 + (c^2)/4
R^2 - r^2 = (c^2)/4substitute this into the area equation above to get
A=π (c^2)/4

Last minute in after epic dithering.
It is 8:30 for 9:00 like the first post says, right? The 6:30 start in the event thingy would require extra will-power.
