Thought I'd try listing these on LFGSS.
Superstar Components 38t Chainwheel: Hardly used (maybe 50 miles), hardly marked - £15
SRAM Rival 22 LH Lever: Again, little use, but some cosmetic marks. Comes with brake, but not gear cable - £65
SRAM Rival 22 Front Derrailleur: Used for a very short time (maybe 10 miles). Comes with chain catcher & barrel adjuster - £15
SRAM Rival 22 11-32 Cassette: Never used, but doesn't have it's original box - £28
Diatech Goldfinger RH Lever: Good condition, works perfectly - £10
One Rival 10 spd and one Rival 22 Umlenker: Never used these in the end, but a useful little addition to convert a top pull front derrailleur cable to a bottom pull.
Rival 10spd - £10
Rival 22 - £10

So originally I sent my brother a photo of a Shand Stoater and he was smitten on that type of build with a belt drive for his bike. He had no idea of the ramifications of requesting a belt drive, but since then has looked it over and wants to stick to it.
There isn't a massive market for belt drive compatibility, but it has slowly increased over the past couple of years and I expect curiosity and demand will grow. I know Velorution in London are certainly pushing belt drive bikes and people that I've met that have had / tried belt drives love them, so we shall see.
The best thing about the build is the versatility of the frame. I know that later down the line if my brother decides the belt drive isn't for him it'll be easy to change the drivetrain. Admittedly there would have been plenty of frame choices if the belt drive wasn't a consideration, but it has led to trying to attain one of the most adaptable bike frames I've ever known.

From what I've seen this frameset stands alone. Most equivalent frames are more expensive through the tubing or because they're custom built, that I could see. Next closest is the Surly Straggler, which would require a frame modification for the belt drive. Even there, reviews of the two put the Wolverine in front. It's just a shame that I've had such a bad experience getting hold of this frame.

To be honest, he actually bought the frame as a one up because I sorted a new wheel for him (he doesn't like getting presents) and out of guilt for not helping retrieve a really nice hardtail frame that had been sitting outside his friends pub for about 2 years before the council took it. Still, can't knock it.

Let me start out by saying that Soma have provided some of the worst customer service and delivery estimates I have ever experienced by any company ever. I look forward to confirming the other rumour about them providing really solid bikes / frames.
Whilst completing my own project, my older brother got bike envy. He had a Foffa, which was stolen last year and decided that:
a) He should get a better lock and secure his bike better
b) He should spend out and get a custom bike
He wasn’t sure of what he wanted and has little knowledge of bikes. I sent him a link to the Shand Stoater and he was sold, just not on the price. The initial brief was therefore ‘something like the Stoater, but not as expensive’. Knowing how little he knows of cycling and also how changeable he can be I advised the Soma Wolverine.Key points for the bike:
- Flat bars (he’s not used to drops)
- Gates Carbon Belt Drive
- Black 'stealth' colour scheme
Originally I was going to have the bike with a number of DMR specifications (bars, grips, cranks, pedals, saddle, seat clamp), backed up with Hope front hub and Thomson seatpost / stem, but I’ve had to make alterations since this first idea. I knew the frame came in orange and felt good about getting specific DMR components with orange and blue flashes (especially considering the orange frame and blue inside track of the belt)... Right up to the point where my brother decided he wanted a black bike. Luckily, Soma are now (eventually) doing the Wolverine in black.
The current specification (which should be the final specification):
• Soma Wolverine Frameset (52cm, Black)
• DMR Axe Cranks
• DMR V12 Magnesium Pedals
• DMR Wingbars
• DMR Sect Seatclamp
• DMR Stage 1 Saddle (although likely swapping to a Fabric)
• Thomson Elite Seatpost (330mm)
• Thomson X4 Stem (70mm)
• Gates Carbon Belt Drive
• Shimano Alfine Rapid Fire Shifter
• Specialized Sip Locking Grip (Changed from DMR Muta after a recommendation)
• Shimano SLX Hydraulic Disc Brakes
• Hope 1 1/8 Headset
• Hope Pro4 Evo Front Hub (28h)
• Shimano Alfine 8 Speed (32h)
• H Plus Son Archetype Rims (Black)
• DT Swiss Competition Spokes
• Schwalbe One 28mm TyresOf that list I am only now missing the cranks and frameset. I’m hoping the frame comes in before July. I’ve been waiting for it since March (the initial delivery estimate). Ironically my brother is going out to the US in June, but the price he can get the frame at out there is equivalent to the price I’ve been offered when the frame finally arrives here, which is hopefully before he gets back.
- Flat bars (he’s not used to drops)

It's Christmas 2014: I’m about to go on holiday, but I’ve received a rather sizable present from my housemate - A massive box. Given his usual level of humour I assumed a small inexpensive gift was contained within, but it was neither. I was away for a month and spent an extensive amount of that time researching and planning the build I wanted. I had a bar job, very little income or hope of getting a complete bike quickly. I had stated a number of times how much I missed having a hardtail and so the Fugio was bought as a compromise: I bike that can go on or off road and do both very well.
I decided that Chris King specced bike was a bit out of my pay bracket, but that it would be nice to give a British company a nod, specifically one with a mountain bike heritage. Hope was a natural choice. They only really missed out on the seatpost (couldn’t get hold of an Eternity and they only released their carbon one after the build was complete) and subsequently the stem, both of which are Thomson.
Given my financial restraints, it took just over a year to complete and there were some changes along the way. Most of the decisions were made whilst I was on my holiday, so Hope components, Salsa Cowbell bars, SRAM gearing and TRP Spyre brakes.
At first I was going to go with a SRAM 22 setup, debating between the Rival and Force choices, but after some consideration and given the recent release of the 1X systems, I went with a mix of Rival 22 and Rival 1. I also swapped from the Praxis Turn Zayante crankset. I heard so many good things about it and couldn’t resist trying it out, but I am extremely happy with the Hope setup.
Final specification is:
Frame - Genesis Fugio Reynolds 853 (54cm)
Fork/Headset - Genesis Custom Carbon (ADK)
Crankset/Bottom Bracket - Hope 170mm, Hope 30mm
Pedals - Wellgo R120b
Drivetrain/Cog/Chainring/Chain - Rival 1, Sram XG1150 10-42, Garbaruk 44t 104bcd N/W, KMC X11 SL DLC
Derailleurs/Shifters - Sram Rival 1, Sram Rival 22 / Rival 1
Handlebars/Stem - Salsa Cowbell 2 38cm, Thomson X4 80mm
Saddle/Seatpost - Fabric Scoop Shallow Race, Thomson Elite (270mm)
Brakes - TRP Spyre, Ashima Axim 160mm Rotors
Front Wheel/Hub/Tire - H Plus Son Archetype Anodised (28h), Hope Pro2 Evo, Vredestein Fortezza Extreme Weather (28mm)
Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire - H Plus Son Archetype Anodised (32h), Hope Pro2 Evo, Vredestein Fortezza Extreme Weather (28mm)
(Both laced with DT Swiss Competition Spokes & Pro Lock Brass Nipples)
I will be making some more tweaks to the setup, including a Thomson Setback seatpost, when I can get hold of one. I have 5 different sets of tyres (the Vredesteins, Schwalbe Ones & Halo Twin Rails, along with some Cyclo X Kings and Clement MXPs) and I may order a larger chainring at some point. So far it’s been marvellous and does tend to put a big smile on my face. It’s also inspired my brother to take charge on his custom Soma Wolverine, which will be finished before the end of the year (as long as it doesn’t change into a Surly Straggler).
