have forgotten the number of times i have pointed out to people that their clothes, mudguards etc block their lights
Less of a problem in London but in Cambridge loads of people have big wicker baskets on the front of their bikes, front light mounted on handlebars - driver's eyeline is lower than the basket so light is completely blocked when you're coming the other way. Looks fine from standing or to other cyclists though.

Shame on the 50 or so riders I encountered on my ride in this morning who didn't think it necessary to warn me that my rear light had run out of juice.
I had spares in my bag. Would have been nice if somebody had given me a heads up. If there is a light fitted but not working its a fair assumption that the rider is not aware of this fact.
I point it out if I can catch them up or a the next junction, but I'm quite slow...

I agree with keeping it cycling-related.
As it's a proportion of the money donated to the forum, which is itself a cycling-related thing (so I heard), donating to stuff which clearly benefits London Cyclists in general, as well as pooling for smaller charities/causes I might only have heard of on the forum makes sense to me. Whereas if I wanted to donate to eg. Red Cross I would probably be doing so as a separate thing.

network railcard.
I don't think Chester is in network south east...
This is all that's here (concerning renewals past age 25) on the 16-25 website.
Is there anything else? I missed the 'before 24th birthday' bit for the 3 years. :(
So it doesn't matter either way - 3 years or 1 year (renewed the day before your 26th) it still only takes you up to the day before your 27th birthday...

Perhaps similar to lowplug - designer by long long training, quit an office job a year ago because I got tired of the combative dick-waving and soul-sucking tedium of the reality of the construction industry. I felt like I was disappearing, turning into someone else. Plus, enforced, unpaid overtime for everyone (industry standard), more for me because apparently i have higher quality control than strictly necessary, combined with a pay cut for everyone, pushed it.
I had an excuse to quit (look after parents) and since then I've been 'freelancing' but not much of it. Responsibility free, able to exercise as much quality control as I like. I'm over-qualified and undercharge for what I do, but i'm happy. Unfortunately I'm nowhere near breaking even and have pretty much run out of money. Can't face going back to full time office work. Do not want.
Been teaching part-time for a few years, just one day a week. Love it. At the moment find it impossible to resist going in on extra (unpaid) days, but I enjoy it so much. Everyone who's bailed or been sacked over the last year or two is looking for uni work though, so the chances of me finding additional teaching work is super-slim. Wish I didn't have to make money.
Not that helpful. Good luck.

Paid through taxes, not a graduate tax.
To be 100% honest, I think the proposed system of repayment is pretty great. I wish I had something similar on my £60k Canadian student debt. Instead it's treated like any other bill. The moment I'm 6 months out of school, interest and repayments begin.
I am not happy with the cuts, however, and I'm not happy with the middle-class knee-jerk reactionism to students getting pissed off.
This. Actually, I feel a lot more sympathy for the students and kids now than at the start (was somewhat ambivalent at the point of the Millbank march) - because of the way they have been treated on the ground and the reaction from government and populace.
I hate the way it's been packaged up - the fee-paying mechanism and amount, bundled with a change in principle in how HE is funded. So any and every discussion can be derailed.
And (extent of) youth services and FE cuts are just plain wrong.

^ Did that story make it over here from Germany? (I'm not too attentive with the news so would probably have missed it if so). It should have, just from the few words on here about it, it makes me feel awful and angry that it happened (to anyone but especially an old boy who was helping others) but even angrier that they are talking about using water cannons in the streets here. Has it come to this? Against our own children? Spontaneous, defiant, protesting children - not armed thugs, organised criminals or terrorists.

I use an Epson V750 - clarity amazing but i can never get the colours looking right, maybe just my poor Photoshop skillz... before that I used a Canoscan D2400, several years before so technology has moved on somewhat, but I always found the colours spot on, however it just didn't seem to focus right for film, things were always a little soft. At the time I was mostly scanning 120 pinholes so that didn't really matter! It's amazing how cheap a decent scanner is now. Hmm. Sorry, rambling no end.

Evening all,
Does anyone have any colour paper (RA4 process) that they no longer use, maybe kicking around or gathering dust ...? Just on the off chance, I would gladly take it off your hands.
I can swop for some worn down crappy solid pedals... or some old but ok cat eye LED lights. Or cash, depending on condition. Or some nice prints, if that's your sort of thing. I don't mind if it's out of date or otherwise been kept suboptimal if I can still use it for reasonable contact prints. (Obvs there will be some guesswork involved until it gets used but hey... )

I could go on, but I don't think you would ever get my point of view, because you are you and I am me.
This is the only bit I understand. I am confused.
My bit was only really in response to Multi Grooves further up the page saying
"what would you do if you had a youngster with you and you spend the time explaining that they must not attempt to cross when the man is red but when green they can safely cross..."
I'm just saying you should teach little ones to always engage brain before crossing the road, green man or no green man. Just cos traffic should stop doesn't mean it always does. Pretty simple (and uncontroversial) really.Unless that wasn't a reply to me ...?
