I hadnt run for over a year, but am cycling at least 3 times a week (commute - 30 k each way!) Started running again a few weeks ago, but cross country up hill stuff, and after the first run my achilles hurt a lot - then the pain went away, and all was fine. Did another run and it has been bad for a week since. This is the first time this has happened to me - it has been suggested to me that due to the amount of cycling I do the tendons (or muscles) have shortened and the act of running is stretching them again - which is certainly how it feels. Any one else suffer with this?

Cheers for the replies - I have found a rack from Tubus which appears to connect via the skewer, although I think there is a weight limit of 25 kg, which I figure is enough anyway.
Just seen the new Kaffenback frames and I have to say I prefer the old version; any suggestions for a steel frame for touring?
-
So I have been given the go ahead to go for a mini tour next year (max 1 week!!!!, we have a young family!), and now I have starting thinking about which bike to use.
I have already done a few one nighters close to home with the pompino; great but the pompino has obvious limitations. I have a 1st generation sliding dropout Inbred which I think would be ideal with the steel rigid fork and discs, but the problem is is that there are no rack eyelets at the bottom where the chain stays and seat stays meet!!
The other idea is to get a new Kaffenback frame - I have most components at home - bars, wheels etc!!!
I have a fair idea what I would like to do (the more expensive option of getting a new frame!!!!) But I would like to hear if anyone else has toured with the inbred with discs and what racks etc did they use.
Many thanks

Had a look round the site to see if there was anything on this subject but couldn't find anything. Some background first..........
Got a new Pompino, but chose to build it myself. They forgot to send the canti brake hanger for the front, but this has now arrived. This is the first time for me with canti brakes as well.
I have roadie brake levers and want to know if I need a cable adjuster to go on the front hanger and the rear hanger before I fit the brakes?
I hope this makes sense, would like to get them fitted soon, so that I can ride on the hoods.
Many thanks

Can I just add my penniesworth? I dont cycle in London, I live in the North of Italy, where cycling has been for many years and still is very popular. People commute to work, take the kids to school, do the shopping etc by bike, in fact the town where I live is criss-crossed by cycle-tracks. But again there are all sorts who ride here, the other night I was coming back from work (a 20 mile commute) and I know that as soon as I get to the city, it is time to slow right down, and be extra vigilant, because people just dont look, they will pull out in front of you without looking and then get s shock when you pass them! Also people with their music, or phones, just dont realise who is behind them. The other night, whilst on this track, at a busy junction (with another cycle-track, where people never look!!!) I was behind a guy riding one handed (on his town bike) whilst the other hand is up to his ear. I slow down for this junction, he goes straight through without looking, then on the other side I decide it is time to pass him, just as he decided to do a 180 and go back the way he came (whilst still on the mobile)!!! I just manage to avoid him, he doesnt even see me!!! Then I shout something (in English!!!), to which he tells me to feck off in Italian!!!!
Also for a town with so many bikes, I still cant believe the amount of people who ride on the roads without lights!!!!! Very annoying, especially as it is difficult to see them whilst driving!!!!
Rant over!!

My commute to work takes about an hour, and frankly I am getting a little bored of the same music.
Any ideas on a good podcast/podcasts to listen to? My commute is on a dedicated cycle track so I can safely listen to it.
Any subject is welcome, maybe something to get me thinking!
I have tried some from the BBC, but they are mostly 30 mins long, and if I am honest do get a little boring.
Sound quality is also important, although I know that with podcasts this can vary greatly.
many thanks in anticipation............

Done and done, I was trying to put the wrong ones in!!!!! This morning we did all the threads (ie, with the tap), and then back to the bike shop to get the right size, and now all is hunky dory.
After the drive in to work today, where after 5 mins a suicidal scooter rider (we have lots of them here!!!) called me a stronso for driving carefully and with due diligence through a built up area) I am looking forward to commuting with the bike on the cycle track that we have here............feck me the people here in Italy are for the most part very careless drivers!!!! Really makes me nervous!!!!!
Saying that though, they are also like that on the cycle track through the town!!!! They just pull out in front when they want, turn right across your path when they please!!!!! Really have to stay focused riding the bike through the town!!!!
OK rant over!!!!
Me thinks a new brake lever tomorrow, the one finger jobby!!!

FLaP Clefty is offering you the levers for the brakes you have.
V brakes = long pull,
Canti's = short pull.
You need the corresponding levers as RPM said, or a travel agent as moog said.
If you want to use the brakes you already have, then buy Clefty's levers. Best solution.Don't go brakeless unless you're used to it, you probably don't have a good gear ratio for it.
Cheers, yeah I realise my mistake. The problem was that I was sent the whole bike, but missing the canti hanger for the front, so I was a little confused how to fit brakes, then tried fitting the deore brakes but using the canti (roadie) brake levers!!! So now I have fitted the deores with the deore brake lever as well and all is hunky dory! (btw Planet Xhave said that they will send the missing canti hanger.
Have been riding brakeless in town for a while, never for a long trip though.Going to use the bike to commute to work tomorrow; 40 miles there and back mostly on a cycle track, with one road crossing.
Gear ratio is 49:18 - I shall see how it works tomorrow, but a few weeks back I did the same commute on a SS with 52:16 and it went ok.
Can someone help me please - have a dlink wifi router at home; on my ipod touch I can get hold of the wifi, but on the iphone 4 no. Keeps asking me for the password, but then doesnt take the wifi. I tried another wifi yesterday and it work, although this wifi was not password protected. I think maybe I need to change to password key on the router?
Thanks for any suggestions.
