On second thoughts i think i will leave it as it is. The condition of the badge is not that bad. I think new paint wont do it justice (which any way i go about restoration).
Thankyou everyone for your time in responding to this, i value all your comments. I will keep this in mind in future builds.

Thanks guys so the general verdict is to keep it as it is and just re attach it after the job is done? I'm abit of a perfectionist but dont want to take away from the vintage feel either. For example the feathers has a great amount of detail and i don't want to lose that by careless polishing. I can do the above but also don't want to fuck it up in the process as i think its quite a rare head badge.
I do think that would look cool. But if you want to restore it Humbrol was the first thing I thought of too. You wouldn't need anything over the Humbrol - you might want to strip the old paint off with something first though. But I'd avoid anything that could fuck up a handsome head badge.
Fox i take it i probably couldn't just patch up the bits which are bare as they would look different to the original paint, curses the previous owner.
Thanks guys for all your help on this. So much nearer a choice!

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew what sort of paint that i need to restore my old Coventry Eagle head badge as i just sent off the frame for a respray. The head badge is in abit of a state and i was curious to which paint i would need to get it back to its former glory. Also if it will need abit of a rub down etc.
The above is the head badge.
Also i would need some form of finisher on it?Thanks for your time.

Thinking of snapping this up tomorrow, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=110578171945&Category=56197&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D2#ht_500wt_947
1953 Claud Butler 21" frame.
What do yall' think of it. Was going to save abit more and get a nice lugged track frame. So buy this beauty or beast if it is. Or save for the track frame i originally wanted?
Thanks.
