This is that website I was talking about by the way: http://www.e-hongfu-bikes.com/. Seems like its too good to be true but it actually is true! The majority of my road bike came from here (frame, rims, hubs, aero bars, stem, headset, seat post) and came to about £600!!! And that pretty much all you need for a fixed gear :D and I've been riding it 2 years now and nothing has put a foot wrong, even after a 70 mile daily commute for a couple of months! Anywho, enjoy browsing, it makes for good dreaming!

Just incase that wasn't very clear, I drew a diagram: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52884248@N08/7864286508
As you can see if you remove the pink squares, ie where the tape overlaps, you are left with a checkered pattern of tape. -
Stripped it down completely, then payed on a few primer coats. Then did a full couple of layers of white over the whole frame. Once hat was dry, I bought thin tape (you can get it in any width on eBay as they use it when they spray cars to outline designs and tape off boarders etc) and I ran tape in strips along each tube, leaving a gap between strips of the same width as the strip. I then ran loops of tape around the tubes, again, leaving a tape's width between each strip. This then crated the basis. Next I took a scalpel/sharp Stanley knife and cut the squares where the tape met along each side of the square and then used small tweezers to peel off those squares. This left me with a checker pattern of tape. Layed on a few layers of black, waited til it was dry, and then tweezered off the tape, revealing the white underneath and hey presto it was very checkered! And quite cool I think, although it's not for everyone haha! Bit hypnotic! but given that the tape was around 1cm wide, you can imagine how long it took to do! The frame is back in london at the mo but I'll bring it up next time I'm down there, definitely be good to build it up again!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/52884248@N08/7864031378These are my current projects. First two are pretty much done, just waiting on an order of brake levers and then the blue/white one will get some white bar tape (although I like it with the bare bars myself) and the yellow one will get some brown leather bar tape to match the leather seat :) the other two are a bit behind, still need to build the blue rims up etc, the blue one - the paint is pretty bad so thinking I may do a paint strip and try my hand again at spraying, quite exciting too as it seems like the entire bike may have been chromed before they painted it so may be able to have a predominantly chrome frame with some paint effects where the chrome is poor... We shall see! Any suggestions would be welcome.

My absolute baby that I built up from scratch over around 6 months period. Pretty much any part that can be carbon is carbon and it comes in at a few grams over 7kg :) probably made the cost back in saved petrol already, especially as for a while I was using it to commute the 70 mile round trip to work each day, 5 days a week! -

http://www.flickr.com/photos/52884248@N08/5111750251Heya, not really been involved in the scene in Newcastle as didn't really realise there was one! But Anywho, I'm Jamie, been at uni here the last 5 years and now working in Durham (living in Newcastle). The above are a few of many of my many past bikes (the ones I still have photos of!) I will try and get photos of the new ones I'm working on at the moment! Hopefully coming down to this Wednesday ride if I get away from work in time so may see you there!
Ps: I know that the seat mount on the checkered bike is on back to front, just threw it all together for the photo! Oops! The checkered frame is the only thing I still have left from those bikes tho. Pretty Impressed with myself that I sprayed it all myself! Took bloody ages lol! -
Nah man, you're not being pulled up on having cheap parts on your bike, though it sure as hell oughtn't be in porn for a myriad of reasons that you'll catch up on in due time.
You're getting stick for the fact that you have no foot retention on a fixed gear bike, your seatpost is in back to front, your saddle angle and bar angle are messed up, your brake cable is in bad shape an you've used a quill to a-head adaptor and an a-head stem on your threaded fork...
The paintjob though looks very nicely done, not my cup of tea but a few more closeups of that might be cool...
Equally I reckon it would look awesome if you went for some primer red rims and drops maybe, bit of a cafe racer/ hot rod look... Might be shite too though...
yeah, i agree with all the stuff thats wrong, fairly new to the whole fixed gear building thing. I did have cages on the pedals but took them off to put on my next project as am selling it at the mo and cba to buy new ones. currently thinking about my next custom frame paint job project at the mo.
-
Ha! Harsh though. Granted components wise it's nothing to get excited about but the paintjob is interesting and seems to be quite neatly done.
yeah, i know the components arent anything special, i cant afford better ones haha. was more the frame paint job that i was putting up for bike porn.
and i know, obviously, that the chain is slack lols, i just wacked the wheels on lightly to take the pic as i had dismantled it to get it in the car on the way back from uni and couldnt find my good old adjustable spanner haha! -
Ho-oly fuck! what on earth is that?!
@ watkjp
haha, is that a good ho-oly fuck!?? it was my first attempt at a custom painting and i really liked the idea of a fully checkered bike offset by deep black wheels so i gave it a go! came out really well i think haha! everyone who has seen it has commented very favourably! does nobody like it?

Here is my fixed gear that i recently custom painted. Dunno if it belongs in here but i think its awesome! :-)

i'm afraid i can only go on the fact that it says Ti raleigh on the downtube and there is a little sticker on the vertical tube that says Ti made in england on it... under ther bb there are no frame numbers, just an S if that means anything? there are none of the usual stickers saying 531 etc so i'm not sure... i think the guy i bought it off was the original owner though and i doubt he would have had it resprayed or anything..

Here for sale is my recently built T1 Raleigh fixed gear bike in the Raleigh Team colours! The frame size is 63cm.
The original 700c chrome rim is laced onto a new on-one large flange track hub and it runs straight, true and smooth. The front wheel is original to the bike and is smooth and very true. The rear chrome rims are in generally very good condition with only minor scratches/speckling, certainly nothing you would see without getting down and inspecting them. The front chrome rim is generally the same but there is an area where it is a bit worse and this is shown in the pictures but still nothing too bad considering the age. The wheels have brand new speedium 2 yellow tyres which go great with the colour scheme.
The chain is solid and works well with the 52t chainset and a brand new 18t cog and lockring. There is also another lockring included on the other side of the hub so with another cog/freewheel it can be used as a flip-flop hub.
The bike is set up with a single front brake linked to a new small brake lever on the horizontal part of the handlebars. The handlebars have brand new yellow grip tape that looks great.
The frame is generally in excellent condition with only a few scratches here and there. There is one patch behind the seatpost that has some paint loss, shown in the pictures, but this is only visible from the rear and doesnt affect the beauty of this bike and other than this the paint is in very good condition. Could be touched up if you can match the colours. There is also some chrome loss on the pedals. I can replace these for an extra £6 with new chrome ones.
Collection from Wimbledon/Southfields area near the Wimbledon tennis (SW19). There are also trains that run from Waterloo and Clapham Junction (to name a few) to Wimbledon station and i am happy to bring the bike and meet at Wimbledon station. Cash on Collection.
This beauty could be yours for £190! SOLD
