Yeah they make some cheaper ones but they tend to be for laptops (i.e. not on a cable), and not as well reviewed.

I was tempted to this, but i always have a privacy cover on my webcam, which i'd have to flip up every time

Very pleased with my newest upgrade:

A Kensington K62330WW fingerprint reader; I was fedup with typing my long work password in all the time to authenticate. My work laptop is docked behind my screens at the so I cant easily reach its built in finger print reader.
The reader itself is all metal and works flawless every time (though I would recommend re-adding your fingers onces it's under the desk to get the angle right if you do this), and doesn't need any additional software on windows
I've plugged it into my the USB hub on one of my screens so I can also use it on my personal desktop PC too. Then I thought to look to see if anyone had modeled a mount for it, and low and behold they have

So now I just reach under the edge of the desk and tap my finger to authenticate/login etc - so much faster

Are the Edge AL mudguards all comeing with dual stays now? The ones I got only had mono stays, I would have much prefered two! Or are they a different mudguard?

Edit: Just seen they're the new Bluemel Style I wonder if they're dual stays becuase the're plastic so its more flexy
