'First Course In Turbulence' - Dean Young - Challenging free associative surrealist poetry. If your into contemporary poetry Young is the man....for me at least.
'The Best of Saki' - Saki - Collection of satirical shorts. Good laugh.
'Slap Boxing With Jesus' - Victor Lavelle - Collection of shorts. Hyped. Was not into it. Too much thoughtless pussy humor for me.
Re reading the 'Salteaters' - Toni Cade Bambara. You just have to dive in. Those who don't like non linear narrative, stay away.

Hello. Hope you've all had a good weekend.
New to here just wanted to introduce myself. 'Hello'
I've been cycling SS/Fixed for 5/6 years. Mostly on bikes that I have rescued from skips and converted. (with a lot of assistance)
I'm really interested/keen to learn bike mechanics, properly. I'd like to be able to deal with all aspects of maintenance and build a bike from frame without assistance.
Completed my first day shadowing a mechanic on Saturday. I left humbled, confuzzled and reassured that I know jack diddley..well more or less!
Anyone who wants to share what they know and/or has time to show me a few tings is more than welcome.I'm just back into riding after a few months out with a broken scaphoid (first ride was around Vicky Park yesterday! :)
Would be nice to meet up with some folks based east and surrounding to go for rides. Though I'm trying to take it very easy and build up confidence. Also, I think my scaphoid has a while to go yet before I have full usage and am free from concerns about impact.I'm a broke rider. Nothing fancy here. Just enjoy the sense of space/freedom I get from cycling.
Hear from some of you soon I hope.

Thanks East End Images. Good weekend?
In terms of mechanics I have managed to get myself two placements over the weekend.
The road is long but I think it is the best way for me to go seeing as I am broke and cannot afford a £900.00+ course. Thanks for the links. Hope some of those places offer free cycle training. Think it would definitely help to brush up and boost confidence after having had an accident.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the laugh/smile :)
Getting an MRI means I know how to push for what I need/want. It was courtesy of the NHS. I was in the waiting room for two hours sipping on HM'S finest government juice not Pellegrino!
First time back on the bike yesterday, was a little nervous but I felt great after. Then the whole day in a bike shop learning the basics.
Is it the case that you don't wear a helmet? If so, what is the rationale behind that?
What has the weekend been like for you? Hope it's been a good one.

Hey Shoosh. Appreciate you saying 'Hi'
4-5 years is a long time. Have you been able to do much activity in that time?
Confidence is also a challenge for me. I'm feeling a lot more weary as it only took seconds to do damage that I may have long term problems with.
So how are you building up your confidence? Laps around Vicky Park?
Anyway, hope you continue to recover/heal. Have a good start to the weekend.

Haha! Thanks for the laugh and response.
I am having my final MRI tonight but it seems that it has for the most part healed, just plenty of wasted muscle. I'm keen to get back on the bike. I'm very hyperactive and travel cost are ridiculous. Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone out there/on here had been in this situation.Heavy wrist use? Is the comment based on the assumption I am a MR. Bones? ;)
So does anyone know anyone who wants to teach me bike mechanics? Or a place where I can shadow a mechanic?
I am based in east London. I know a bit and have put my bike together but with assistance from a mate. I'd like to be able to do all maintenance and put a bike together myself.
Reasons; I've taken a liking to bike mechanics (what I know of it) and it is useful for working on projects with young people (those between 16-25. no idea what the f@*k that makes the rest of us but anyway)Look forward to feedback.
but I'd like to be able to do it all and confidently on my own in time. I'd also like to be able to pass skills on to young people

So Sash,
Is it mine?
