Aviva fails to peddle bike insurance with bungled PR stunt:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/aug/25/aviva-bike-insurance-pr-stunt
..That's one of the worst PR stunts ever, although maybe it was to point out that Aviva are now offering insurance on unlocked bikes?

I have 2 wheels up for grabs, although their both pretty basic/bad.
First one is a rear 700c - It looks ok, maybe needs a slight true, I got it from a freecycle here and didn't end up using it. It has a flip flop hub on it, don't know what size cogs but they look like 18-19s maybe.
Second is a buckled front 26" nonamer wheel, can't be trued without some new spokes as all the nipples have been rounded off.
Both are free but I won't deliver.
Will be in and outNearby or in, all weekend, Stamford Hill N16 -
So, I'm slowly piecing together my first polo bike, and obviously the most important part is the plastic discs that go over the wheels, (and the design on them).
I was wondering why people don't put the disc *inside *the spokes, (so you wouldn't need to tie it on or cut it into a slight cone shape)
:)
Don't worry about your bike, as long as it's safe and not your pride and joy just get down and play.(What I did and now I'm hooked).

Going on the hunt tomorrow?
Going to start a Google - My Map, put points on it from the roadworks map which say what is meant to be there. Then when I'm out I can fire up google maps and get directions to the different pipe locations.
Once I've found some I can update the map to show "confirmed pipe locations", albeit slightly over the top for pipe.
I'm going to the plumb centre tomorrow to see if they have offcuts/how much it is?

john i know what you mean, but nobody is stopping you grabbing a ball and going out on your own to practise. There is a lot to be said for 'solo polo'
I was thinking about doing this, once I get my own mallet sorted. Was wondering though, with the talk of pissing off residents, where to go.
e.g. Would it be ok if I swung by downham on my way home for a knock around on a monday or wednesday evening?

Sandy, it's been done before, and I'm sure it'll be done again.
There is an official body for this, I'll dig out the link if you're interested.I'm not really fussed tbh, just thought it would be better than mucking up the schedule and all that. I've found the London Hardcourt Bike Polo Association
But I wasn't sure if this was the official association as it doesn't look like it is maintained very often.
What diameter are the polo mallets that you use as loaners? I'm looking for some pipe, is 75mm or 90mm to big?

It is probably best to try and keep a specific beginners session. But I would say I have spoken to people at East drinks who have been interested in giving polo a go but don't really fancy the 10 mile ride to give it a go. So there could be something there.
Instead of having a weekly session, what about having a one-off day somewhere specifically aimed at getting new players in?
Sorta like one of those "try a new sport things that the councils sometimes do at leisure centres".

I thought it was a Team America-esque p*ss-take – turns out it’s deadly serious.
YouTube- "We've Got To Stop The Mosque At Ground Zero"
Sorry if this is a repost, couldn't find it anywhere in search.
Hi I bought this bike just over a year ago but don't know excatly what model it is. I've tried searching for information on it but can't find much.
I was told when I bought it, that it was a Ti 8000 Mtrax? Can't find any information or pictures of these anywhere.
I'm thinking about either selling it or converting it back to orginal spec, so knowing what it was/is would be quite helpful.
Thanks
Here is a photo of it http://twitpic.com/e4u6p/full
