I collect japanese chefs knives too, at one point for £500 you could get a beautifully hand made blade by some of the best blacksmiths in the world. The same people who would be stunned when I told them this thought nothing of dropping fortunes on a set of golf clubs.
I suppose at the end of the day value is all relative and amounts to what someone is willing to pay.

Tomasito, I liked the smoothed out bare metal too.
Hopefully it looks good when its finished, it'll be chrome old school style wheels, chrome drop bars to match the crank and black saddle and handlebar tape.
cheapest place that powdercoats is 120 euro in dublin + 100 miles travel, so its not like I have the option of dandering to armourtex, its hardly the swankiest frame either.

Its at 2 primer and 4 coats of colour now and looking pretty much solid, montana black seems to be really nice paint though, going to smooth it out with some 1000 wet and dry and then hit it with and couple of coats tomorrow.
This is my first bike build and a pretty steep learning curve, but im enjoying it.

Looking a 27" chrome front wheel, if it came with a tyre, tremendous.
doesent need to be too fancy, just chrome type and I dont mind an odd bit of surface rust.
I'm sure someone has one of these stripped off an old raleigh or something.
also cheap (like a budgie) would also be nice.
I'm in N.I so you would have to post, but its just standard royal mail prices.

Phew, smoothed out the frame of pump holder and various gear/brake holders as well as that fugly light connector on the fork is gone :)
bought the paint im spraying with, just waiting on primer and lacquer arriving from ebay, needs a final sanding and scrub. I must be mad spending this amount of time/money/effort on a raleigh frame, not sure if its even 501. anyway heres a pic to show change and paint color.

before: this doesent show you quite how rusty and in generally shit order the frame was in.

after.
It took 2 days on and off, the green tin nitromorse, steel wool and some sandpaper.
Get a pair of proper thick rubber gloves and watch your eyes nitromorse isnt nice I've used it on boats and furniture before and im still wary off it, good ventilation too.
All that effort for an old raleigh frame, I must be mad lol

I have a set of raleigh/weinman centre pull brakes.
Its a front weinman 610 and a back weinman 750, brakes have "made in switzerland" on the back and date from 1970's.
If you need the levers as well, give me a shout you can have those too, I presume these will be used as replacements for someones old centre pulls.
Now i'm after a chrome side pull brake (for the front) or some toe clips maybe.
I live in belfast so no pick up, but its just a standard royal mail postage charge, I'll pay postage to you, you pay postage to me.
if you need more pics or anything drop me a pm.
just got chatting to a fella on belfast gumtree when I was looking some wheels there, mentioned if he ever came across any decent frames. got this back.
"hi
i collect 1940/ 1950 british frames. bates, hetchins, claud butler etc. what sort of frames are you looking for?
neil"
I think this may be some kind of elaborate frame based honeytrap as it sounds too good to be true lol
