Here's an example of what I had been referring to.
The SE DC x PK Ripper was £849.00 at Evans and Wiggle (Wiggle aren't doing a discount).
Evans dropped it after nearly a year, to £699.00, then now to £499.00.
IMO, it was always a £499.00 bike. It was being grossly marked up though. Paying £849.00 didn't show that you got what you paid for. It showed that you were financially taken advantage of.

Feather Cycles is different, as that is a small and excellent business, that works hard to meet the customer's high expectations. In this case, you DO get what you pay for. With OTPs it can be very different though.
So far as I can see, there's no comparison between Feather and OTP bikes, regardless of how good they are. They're in different leagues, and appeal to a different target audience altogether. If OTP bikes were a little more generous in their pricing/components/overall quality, there wouldn't be such a wide gap between the two. Mass appeal need not, and should not, be equated with basic tat, otherwise the consumer is just being royally turned over, to the tune of cash money. I reckon it's definitely worth spending the extra on something solid and reliable.

All I know is this. I'm riding an OTP at the moment, an SE Draft Lite, and despite loving it for getting me right back into bikes again, the trouble it causes me due to poor components is really boring. The wheels buckle constantly, and blah blah blah. Only using a bike for a sustained period of time shows you what it's really like, unlike a brief test ride. Ride a bike for a while and you'll soon see whether you've made a good choice, maintenance wise. Whoever mentioned 'you get what you pay for' above is absolutely right, in whatever walk of life.

I cant believe some people still seem to struggle to understand that the fact is, you get what you pay for! end of story...
Another example of good new UK companies building fixed gear bikes (amongst geared/single-speed builds), Feather Cycles, they don't come cheap, but are good quality custom builds, hand built by one man...
Agreed. Feather frames are some of the nicest out there, and built by a guy who seems utterly sound, and into what he does for the right reasons. I'd love one - they're all beautiful.

For what it's worth, these are my thoughts, a mere newbie. This place is the tits. I believe in it, and find it entertaining/useful/fun - everything forums should be, but rarely are. I knew nothing a month or so ago about bikes, and I don't know much more now, but what I do has all come from here. I've had a load of help, directly or otherwise, bought lots from here towards my first build, and donate. I've found it inspiring actually. I've been to drinks, and met some nice people. Without this place, I'd have done none of it. It's easy for the 'veterans' to get blase about this scene, if I can call it that, and think it's passe while getting misty-eyed for the past, when there were fewer members. I understand that, but things inevitably change. I like the spirit of the forum; I've been ribbed a few times but I can handle that - gratuitous abuse is tasteless anywhere, but I always believe that those taking the piss would actually enjoy meeting in person those they abuse. That's my stance. Long may it continue, however it develops.

I wish I had nothing to add to this thread, but from riding home from work tonight, I sadly do. In London's 'Glittering West End', Grosvenor Street, W1, the driver of a parked van shouted either 'cunt', or 'you cunt' at me; I didn't catch exactly which. I never thought to ask either. I'd done nothing at all. I thought maybe I'd prevented him from pulling out into traffic, but I hadn't. I kept checking until I was well down the road, and he'd stayed parked right where he was. He just took his chance and abused me for no reason at all. What a caveman. The pointlessness of it is what's depressing. I'd love to smash his feckin' face in. So to you pal - let's hope your life improves soon.

planet x.
great service.
always.- 0.5
I ordered a pair of hubs from them, but they sent me incorrect hubs on 2 occasions. On the third delivery I ended up with what I actually wanted, along with a couple of free inner-tubes to account for the inconvenience, as I'd also ordered rims from them. So very frustrating, but mistakes happen and they redeemed themselves somewhat.

I quite like Vettel, but he can't handle the pressure it seems. Would have hated him had he shunted Hamilton off mind.
