vi
ducks
I use vi (well, vim and specifically macvim) pretty much exclusively! It's very extendable, there's a plugin to do just about anything, including support for intellisense. I like that my personal setup is almost ready to go on any platform.
dreamweaver cs5 has wordpress and joomla support now
Dreamweaver is really the only option when you have a large team working on a website as it makes it easy to tell who has done what and when they did it.
This is not true, the world of version control goes far beyond dreamweaver. Git is my favorite.

Does anyone here know what a host file is and how I change one on an imac?
In short, the /etc/hosts file is a static mapping of server names and IP addresses. It's helpful in this case, as it takes precedence over a DNS look up. The OS will look here first before trying to resolve the address.
When adobe products phone home to validate that you have a paid-for copy, they use nice names like activate.adobe.com to reference their servers.
So the idea is you "override" the ip address your computer gets when it tries to visit one of these addresses.
To edit the file, open Terminal.app then type "sudo nano /etc/hosts", then add your custom entries after the line that says "127.0.0.1 localhost" and before the line with ::1 localhost (ipv6 looking stuff).
It's pretty simple from here. eg, if you want to make google.com go to 1.2.3.4 (don't do this..) Just add a line that says "1.2.3.4 google.com".
Press Ctrl+x to quit, and press y when it prompts.. Done deal. You should get a list of entries to add with your CS5.. Be sure to read "READ ME" and .nfo files..

I just finished my undergraduate studies in Brighton while living in London for the last 1.5 years of the course.. I also had a job in Brighton, which was good as I ended up being in Brighton during "office hours" for days I had to split between work and lectures, bad for days when I just had to go to work..
It wasn't too bad, but certainly not ideal. Lots of stress getting there for early exams, hard to pop back to campus for random things after hours..
My commute was about 2:15 hr door to door each way, which is workable, but there's no way I'd do anything further!
The time is not a big deal, as it was easy to study on the trains, but the biggest problem is the high cost of rail travel - so painful.
I'm very much looking forward to my masters course which is about a 15-20min away by bike!

I've found the Jury's Inn by the station can be fairly cheap but still decent in an uninspiring chain sort way, definitely a good location..
I'm not really familiar with Brighton but I've seen a lot of B&Bs down Kingsway (outside of Brighton, farside of Hove) near Woody's Diner. Not sure why there are a lot of B&Bs over there, but you could search around there for prices.. Or see what's on airbnb.com

I have a cheapo £5 foot pump that came with a presta to schrader adapter.. When I put it on and connect the pump, it leaks at about 5-10 psi/sec - so I have to compensate by rapidly pumping to reach a max of around 60 to 70 psi (according to plastic glued-on gauge).
Is this a common problem w/ these adapters or am I doing something wrong? Should I try a new adapter or do I just need to pony up for a proper track pump?

Often in pop songs, (especially but not exclusively the black american sort) I hear the "shorty" being said quite a lot.
What does this mean? It seems to me like a pet name for a small child, yet the contexts of the songs are not at all relavent. Who is Shorty?
Shorty is an attractive girl/girlfriend, or a guy who is "new to the game"

I've seen the bait bike warnings at Imperial.
I think if it's effective, do it.. I don't care if they're locked or unlocked.
While I'm not sympathetic to the "entrapment" angle, it makes more sense to lock the bikes - making it a more realistic situation to catch regular thieves, who are a more appropriate target for the scheme. Maybe they don't want to pay for new locks, or wait longer for people to steal the bait bike.

Anyone able to reccommend a calorie counting app?
it's pretty easy to keep track of when I'm only having three meals a day (and the same breakfast everyday) but it would still be useful.
One that let's me add in each ingredient as I put it into the pan would be useful for dinner...
Take a look at Tap & Track. http://nanobitsoftware.com/?page_id=74
You can build meals from ingredients, which you can define yourself or find from a library of products and generic food.
I've not looked at anything else, but it works for me.

What's the deal with water intake with respect to weight loss? It's certainly a good thing for plenty of reasons, but I often see it recommended when people talk about losing weight..
It it simply because if you're full of water you'll be less hungary, or does being well hydrated increase your resting metabolic rate somehow?

Getting serious about finally getting a bike again, a fixed gear one at that.. I probably fit into one of the typical moulds for new members, trying to pick up enough information to cobble together or buy a cheap first beater.
I think I visited this forum in 2008 when I first moved to the UK (Brighton). Anyway, I bought some anonymous junker for £30 which was stolen within a week, so I ended up just being content with walking around Brighton..
Fast forward to now, my girlfriend got her first bike and I'm really itching to get one myself, as I've not seriously ridden in 3 to 4 years. Oh, and I live in London now.
'pirate-like'
What the fuck does the that fact he looked like a pirate have to do with it?
I'm sorry, but I only bring it up because pirates are one of the last social groups whose discrimination is not only generally acceptable, but actively encouraged by the media and costume shops.
We need to think about our words, some people are just out there trying to get an honest ransom - how would they feel to read this shit associating them with mere bike vandals?
