Why you need to strip it down, does it have any problem?
If so, ask the guys at Velorution, Gt. Titchfield st. W1, they do lots of hub gears and both Roman and Daniel are nice guysIt's done 3000 odd miles and is a bit tetchy. IIRC Shimano recommend a re-grease at the first 2000 miles to remove the mess created as the hub first beds in.
Will chat to the chaps at velorution & BC, too.

I had...
Tamiya Madcap - bathtub plastic chasis. Upgraded the drivetrain and chassis in the end.
Schumacher Procat - four wheel drive jobby. First serious one
Schumacher Cougar - two wheel drive jobby - very quick
Losi-XXX - another two wheel drive but with a plastic/carbon chassis.Computer games just killed this stuff - gutted, as it was awesome fun.
All were awesome. Raced at Chingford.

The CTC may be able to help you, should you require it.
Glad you weren't hurt.

OK, I wanted to service my eight speed Alfine hub gear before winter, but I'm bogged down with work, so I'm looking for someone else to do it for me.
Does anyone on here have any experience of servicing one, or know anyone that does? As I understand it after 2000-odd miles the innards needs a degrease, clean and regrease.
Obviously will pay for time and materials - bonus if you can come over to mine (east London, Bow) and show me how it's done.

Alfine is the way to go if you want smooth shifting. From what I've heard, the Imotion9 is all well and good, but it won't shift well with the power down.
The eight speed SA is no good for 700c wheels with its odd gearing (gear 1 is direct drive). Rohloff is off course silly expensive.
There's also the Alfine 11 which should be more efficient and durable than the Alfine 8 - it runs on oil, rather than grease. But it's twice the price.
Versa make STI shifters for both Alfine 8 and 11, but they aren't cheap.
Have fun :)

It will be 135mm (on the 8 speeds and 11 speeds hubs), there's other option such as the on-one pompino with 135 spacing.
Finally picked up the Ridgeback. It's lovely - about the same weight as my CAAD9 (!) and 130mm spacing. Joy to ride too. You'd be bonkers not to pick one up if you were in the market for a winter ride.
Apparently the frame is the same as the Genesis Day 1 from the same year (2008-9).

That sound pretty good.
Howard, don't forget there's a 11 speeds IGH coming this month if you're thinking of more range.
Yes - they look lovely. I Have a feeling the O.L.D will be 135mm like the Alfine 8 though. The Nexus 8 on the other hand can be fitted to a track width bike without having to cold set the frame - with a small lock nut, you can get it down to 123mm.
Will let you know how it goes!

that's a fsking bargain. i really like these bikes. no nonsense, good frame, decent bits, practical, good looking anti-hip. i'd definitely go for this as a winter commuter if i had a bit of spare cash kicking around. bums.
Couldn't resist - just arranged to have one delivered with the intention of converting it to IGH eight speed for touring duties. Bargain.

Two cable ties works fine - for me.
