After a year (or two? my memory is dreadful) of doing a very good job Tom no longer has the time to do it, or sadly ride the track much.
He's a member of Dulwich Paragon by the way, though we'd love to claim credit for his work.
The velodrome continues to be run by a committee of volunteers appointed by the VCL though some aren't VCL members. Most of the main user groups are represented and the Friends are heavily involved (and getting more so).

email info@hernehillvelodrome.com with some info fora quote (it doesn't cost much more per person than an induction session)

The track is not open for free riding during the day. There are often school sessions and other things going on and the site needs to be locked when no-one is there to supervise usage. As it is managed entirely by volunteers people aren't able to be on site all the time.
I think you might have put people's nose out of joint by asking if it's "locked and patrolled" implying you'd consider breaking in if you wouldn't get caught. I'm sure you were just misunderstood.
You'd be more than welcome to come and try the track sometime during a proper session. If you're traveling from Brighton you'd probably want to come along on a weekend. Public sessions are on saturdays march-october (if the only track you have ridden is Brighton you'll need to do an induction). Alternatively you can book a group taster session for anytime the track isn't in use. Bring some mates and make a day of it.

Righty then! For anyone coming tonight. Meet in the office (yellow building) from 7pm. The session proper will start promptly at 7.20.
£3 per person. We have turbo trainers for you to use but not bikes.
If anyone has any music requests post them on here by 5.45 and I'll get them added to the playlist.

Sorry for the silence! I've been away since Friday. we're not quite ready, the building still needs a little more work before it's fit for turboing. This will definitely be on next week though. Cost tbc, won't be a lot more than whatever it was last time.
Not sure, looking like it might me next week as I know they had to get the tent re-built.
Tent? We've had an upgrade...building...with electricity! All labour done by volunteers though, hence the delayed start.

Up to 50, it's been full and people have been turned away every week since the olympics. This might be a better idea http://www.hernehillvelodrome.com/sessions_and_training/private_hire/

The card system is new this year, and as such sort of still in it's trial period. From what I've seen it's a good idea and does/will work pretty well. There are obviously difficulties in creating a system that prevents less experienced riders from joining tougher sessions that is easily enforceable by volunteers (tracks with more formal accreditation systems are not run by volunteers like Herne Hill is).
If any of the beginners session regulars who come down a lot, so know the deal but have little desire to progress to harder sessions, wanted to volunteer to be responsible for stamping people's card at the end of the beginners session I'm sure it would be very much appreciated.

Actually he's a 3rd if we are being pedantic, but Philip Hindes is a 4th.
