Compare that to Crystal Palace where there has been (rough guess) on average one crash per week, and recently a few crashes per week. Its bike racing, it happens. Its rare, but occasionally you might get involved.
More crashes at palace this week then there has been in 5 years at Herne Hill, at least 9 in one night! +more carbon so more expensive! Which is why we all like track racing!
Like has been said before, mention poor riding to the judges, not holding your line is an infringement of the rules as well as dangerous. Trying to make the judges more approachable, because at the moment they tend to just ignore rider complaints.

I really enjoyed this weeks report, but it was missing gems like these:
A disgruntled James Solly protested he wasn’t out on the last lap
James Solly was expected to dominate procedeedings. He looked very powerful in the scratch race... but faded slightly down the home straight
Just doesn't seem like track league without James' tales of woe.Think we can safely say Mike is Herne Hill's best 'Sprint Specialist'

Also, would anyone like to claim to be 5th in the Warm up race? I was given number 16 - which was Connor - who didn't race.
1st S5 Stuart Hourigan
2nd Sx52 Keith Coffey
3rd S68 Neil Irons
4th S11 James Solly5th S16? ?
6th S12 Chris Cole
Also, I haven't got any results for the A 3 lap dash. Any ideas?
Do you have positions below 6th? Might help work things out. There was a huge line of us that came across between about 5th and 10th if I remember correctly. I could have been up there but not confident enough to lay claim to the points.
3 lap dash result looks about right.
Dunno who was 5th in the opener but the huge line that came across "about 5th - 10th" was further back. There was the front 6, then me (7th) then a big mass of riders in a line. Could it have meant to be #18 Mike C? could look like 16 and would make sense. -

Ron Fowler is still taking entries for his Roadmans 25 meeting. The deadline was Monday but he said he'd be down on wednesday with forms to accept any late entries. Usually a good race + there is a vets and a womens omnium.
Details at: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/web/site/BC/Bridge/calendar_future.asp?evt_cp=1&evt_mode=1&evt_id={1D843524-04E6-4A9B-9DCB-5BD518DFCBC8}&evt_seriesid=&evt_myevents=No&RefID=&RefType=&evt_month=0&evt_kw=&evt_regions=South+East&evt_disc=Track+Racing&evt_class=&evt_cat=&evt_series=&evt_resultspp=20
^ all good reasons
The major one: keeping the pace smooth, if your not as fit, constant attacking and changing pace is gonna wear you out, but if the pace is faster and smooth this stops this (so mike you deliberately slowing it down may make it harder for yourself, as it encourages the likes of Keith to attack) Can just do a short quick 1/4 lap turn.
The Jake Martin effect: Something any coaching manuals won't tell you. In bunch races popularity with other riders is important! Going to the front and then swinging straight off or slowing the pace may compromise this. If you are liked people will let you onto wheels in front of them, maybe let you win a prime if they aren't too bothered etc. If your disliked people will chase you down every time you attack, push you off of wheels and aim to never let you win anything
Not doing turns, or doing slow turns shows weakness. If you are a good sprinter, the likes of Keith, Simon Warren, Stuart Hourighan (who are all pretty strong, but have no real sprint to shout about) will want to get rid of you from the race. If you make it too obvious that you are uncomfortable with a fast pace, then they'll attack.
Sitting near the front of the bunch. Its hard to get away with sitting near the front of the bunch without doing a turn. Generally speaking being near the front is useful whether you are feeling strong or weak. If your feeling strong it allows you to follow attacks and increase your chance of getting away. If your feeling weak it means you can drop 10-20 places when the racing gets hard and you'll still be somewhere in the bunch. +it puts you in a good position for starting your sprint.
