Yeah. I've actually added a couple of sanders recently for the same reason. First thing that's going into my workshop when it's done though: bandsaw.

^^ Very nice. I made three electric guitars with a router and jigsaw being my only power tools on a table in my back yard. Using nothing but hand tools would be a bit....tedious IMHO.

I like Sapele a lot. It does vary but the good bits are as nice as most other mahoganies plus it's reasonably priced and sustainably farmed.

There will be photos ahoy when it's ready. I've had some lovely Sapele boards marked up for cutting for MONTHS and haven't got anything done as it always seems to be raining when I have spare time.

Guitar building course starts again soon \o/

Also, we're putting in a garden office at our place which will include some workshop space for me so I can actually get something done even if it's raining.

Bizarrely, the tech who works upstairs at Ritz Music in Putney is very good. My teacher (pro player) uses him for set ups and the like.

^ Same reason I swapped out the Mary Bars on my Swift in the end. Just didn't find them as conducive to SS uphilling. I usually end up walking anyway though.

I'm 6'8". My jeans inseam is around 35" and I'm about 25" from nape of neck to belt so I'm fairly evenly proportioned - I find it about equally difficult to buy trousers AND shirts :-)

Since I took the pic in the BBB thread I've lowered the seatpost quite a bit after some ad hoc fitting advice from James and Clever Pun. I also crushed my ulnar nerves quite badly a while back so I prefer to have as little weight on them as possible hence the short stem.

I'm starting with the rim as it's the only tricky bit from what I can tell. The neck is fairly straightforward. I'm going to try doing some binding and maybe some fancy inlay on this which I've never attempted before.

Spitting's normally a problem with moisture content from what I understand. Try and pick a less humid day to do it :-)

There's some good sunburst tutorials on Project Guitar (I think). I tried the cardboard cutout/raised mask method on some scrap with spray cans and it actually turned out quite well.

Not working on a guitar atm but starting a long-neck, Pete Seeger style banjo build. Will take some pics when I actually make much progress.

Oh and I want to see build pics of the strat and flying v :-)

I've seen people get really impressive results with home set-ups but (like you've found) mostly with stuff it's easy to get in the US rather than here. That coupled with my reluctance to be spraying noxious chemicals in the same areas where my kids play has led me to stay away from it tbh.

Maybe look at getting a Preval? They're supposed to work pretty well.

Giles Padmore who is the distributor lives in Gosport and is happy for people to go and try stuff on at his place though.

Anybody got recommendations for artists who are particularly good at interesting takes on trees/nature scenes? Another source suggested the guys at Black Garden anyone else I should be checking out?

Nice work on the 634s OJAW. The 21oz IH denim is really something else. Giles is usually spot-on when it comes to fitting advice so I wouldn't worry about it.

I've recently added some IH-704s and a pair of IHxB01od to my collection so you won't get any grief from me :)

Quite close to the oldest thing on the internet though :-)
