Ok so have reviewed firms guidance on outside assignments and I'll just need internal sign off. I could be treasurer but possibly better not to start with. Can help on the finance side though.

I have just spotted this, gutted. I might not comment much but I read a lot and its personally answered a lot of bike/non bike questions I had at a time when the internet is no longer delivering answers, only adverts for companies.

Having dealt with regulators elsewhere, I fully respect the decision made by @Velocio I too would not want that personal liability. I pray theres a last minute change to the legislation that rules the forum out of scope but its actually unlikely.

I have done discord moderation heavily so can offer advice on structure/ protection/bots etc but those also cost money so would also need funding from somewhere. otherwise it will be swamped with fake users/scammers attempting to post scammy links. if it isnt locked down someone is going to get screwed over. Happy to discuss if needed, haven't investigated the discord set up yet, will join it later from my personal machine.

You could/can get grants to turn fields back to woodland and protect.earth can probably advise on that but when I looked into it I think it needs to be a minimum of 5 acres to qualify so that needs to be factored in.

Thanks for that link. Once we are in I am going to reach out to them to discuss. Ours is only 4 acres and already has a fair few established trees so might not be as suitable for their input. However there are a few places around the perimeter etc where fencing could be replaced with productive hedges so will contact them.

There's a number of pieces of nearby old farmland to the area that are now nature reserves where rewinding efforts are on going but it's also open for people to enjoy for walk such as nashenden valley reserve and ranscombe farm nature reserve. Currently it being only the 4 acres and unadopted road meaning access isn't easy are barriers to following that path but if the neighbouring plots owned by investment firm become available then that might allow us to expand out somewhat.

There are some access difficulties that would need to be overcome, unadopted road cost shared with at least 2 neighbours, the lane is not the widest with over hanging trees, site isn't flat except right at the bottom and don't want cars driving over and down the field etc.

Hence why our first thought was hikers/ cyclists on the north downs way. Maybe once we are set up with the planting etc some teaching/ local school visits coming to visit to understand the importance of nature.

You appear to be further along on the journey my partner and I are beginning. Outlook is the same, we are stewards not owners, hence why we might also expand the site if we can. Longer term goals could be leaving the site in trust or to the nearby Kent wildlife trust to manage when we shuffle off. We will be engaging with them for advice on local biodiversity etc.

May I ask, what you found the biggest challenge or hurdle?

As I (hopefully) will be getting a few acres, we had been discussing what else we could be doing with the land. At the moment its set up as two big plots next to each other , one is a house with huge garden and the other a big field. The previous owners have set out all the land fairly sympathetic to nature, lots of general wood areas with mini lumber area, two mini orchard areas, the edges of the property lined with fruit bushes, super generous area built as food production plots.

That still leaves the larger field which has a small entertaining area within but generally is left to wildflower and cut once annually. This is the area that we havent really decided what we shall do with it. So I am keen to investigate alongside you to see whats possible to become a net contributor both to local nature/wildlife but potentially also community.

I also know that the next door fields and chalk pits are owned by an investment firm who would likely be open to selling (they offered to the current owners) and we will likely look at that in order to expand on that initiative.

The plots are in a national landscape (the new name for AONB's) so planning is likely to be a little more complicated but if its altruistic and for community good then parish councils etc can be convinced.

Would be interested to also find out what you discover if you do go further on this and potentially be actively involved too.

oooh I am about to buy a field and actually I might say lets get together and brainstorm some ideas.

I like this idea of a community resource. its 500m or so from the north downs way and idyllic. Mine is actually 5 titles with one having the house but there definitely is one distinct field that has the workings on for a place to wild camp, with benches and a very basic outdoor kitchen etc.

My front brake caliper left hand side when looking at it from the front is rubbing on the wheel, the right is free. Any tips for quickly readjusting?

I have the Brompton toolkit with me and never faced this before so not totally clued up on how to adjust the caliper or cable to bring it back off the rim.

Any help great fully received as it'll mean I'm wearing it too fast and putting in waaaay more effort than I should have to.
