Questions questions:

Where in Walthalmstow is the ride starting? I'm in south london so it'll take a while to get up there. Any idea how long it'll take from Elephant & castle?

What is the elevation profile of the ride like? I did london to brighton last weekend geared but the hills nearly killed me.

How many kms expected? (my decision to go geared or fixed depends on this!)

sounds like it will be good and a good intro to longer rides. I am planning on going (as long as it's not pissing down) and was wondering if anyone wants to join me! Admittedly it does seem like a sausage-fest at the moment. That said, I went on the group ride to brighton this past weekend which was about 34 guys and 4 girls, and it was still great!

Just wanted to say thanks for a great ride, and thanks for everyone who checked in on me. Sorry for making you all wait a few times, but I'm really glad you did, it was a beautiful day and I'm stoked to have made it all the way. Well worth the pain.

this sounds like a wicked ride. I'm fairly new to London, so don't know any quirky pubs yet, but this sounds like the perfect want to get introduced to them. Is there a date in mind yet?

I just moved over here and I'd love to go on a ride to cambridge! My bf has a broken collarbone so he can't go riding much and I don't really know many people yet. maybe the first weekend of October would be good?

sad I will miss both those rides! I'm visiting from Toronto June 12-20, but will only have a fixie, so if any other ladies rides are going down (a bit shorter, maybe 20km max) let me know! There's not enough ladies rides (or any at all) in Toronto!

a few tips for the friction.... fun fur. fun fur your saddle.... it helps soooooo much. so good. so comfy.
as for speedos. etc. go for it. in Vancouver the ride is "bare as you dare", so do what makes you comfortable. I just hope it's nice out. the ride in vancouver in 2007 was a torrential downpour and freezing, so cold we did it again in july, just for fun. thought if it's cold there's all the mpre reason to pack some whiskey with you.

A guy at my office is the one designing it....it's going to be a rammed earth structure,with strawbale protectors on the corners under the crossover. There's 4m headroom on the underside I think. He's planning/hoping to pre-fabricate it here in Toronto first to ensure it's all good and then somehow transport it down to Guatamala. I hope they set it up for trials up here!

I may have missed it, but is the plan to take the train back? (Or to ride 200km in one day?) If so, can we all bring our bikes on the same train? I'll be visiting from Canada and don't recall the train/bike rules over there...
