Hello,
I somehow ended up with this frame back in September of last year:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread34287.html
I say 'somehow' as I'm in Melbourne at the moment. Don't know who shipped it over but a quality move in my opinion.
Well the build is all but finished now (just building the wheels left).
The last part of the puzzle are the rivets that would have been used to attach the headbadge.
Someone had sprayed the frame before I bought it. They had also drilled out the rivets and bonded the headbadge to the frame : (
I've now got two holes where the rivets used to be in the headbadge.
I'm hoping to get hold of two rivets or rivet looking 'things' that I can bond to the headbadge. Just to make it look more authentic than the semi-bodge that someone else has done.
Any ideas? Anyone work at a frame builders and have two spare?
Cheers,
Alex

You're right, I should have. I managed to get my hands on some period alloy tub rims but they were never going to make a good set of wheels.
In the end some amazing quality dunlop stainless steel rims came my way. The other bonus is they're that bit bigger to help reduce the clearance.
I think I'll go down the hairdryer route.

So I've been building a Holdsworth 1950 track bike for one year now.
It has taken me this long to find all the correct period parts and restore them to brand new.
This bike is going to look pretty damn good (I think anyway).
The last part of the puzzle are tyres........
I've managed to source all components from Europe in the 50's. It took me months to find a sealed bearing manufacturer in the UK but it all worked out in the end. So as it stands nearly everything is made in the UK apart from a few things made in Europe.
This is everything apart from the tyres, they've been a shit to be honest. There are Michelin World Tours which are 27" but look like chunky touring tyres. There are also Panaracer Pasela tyres but these are Japanese.
I'm after some 27" 1 1/8 slick tyres with gum walls from a UK or European company. Something like the tyres on the blue bike on this page:

Anyone got any ideas?

Hello,
I'm in the market for a new jersey to train in.
Has anyone got an idea where I might get 'Rapha Condor' team jersey from '09 or '10.
I'd really like one but seem to be drawing a blank. I'd especially like the Paul Smith sponsored jersey.
Or has anyone got an old one they want to sell?
Cheers,
Alex

Hi,
I'm in the process of building a new set of wheels with a set of Harden Track Hubs.I'm looking for the best quality cartridge sealed bearings available on the market.
Does anyone know anything about bearings and a good supplier or what to look for.
Ideally I'd like a European manufacturer as I'm trying to build it as close as possible to original.
According to the below website the bearing code is KLNJ 3/8 Y.

Thanks again,

Hello,
I've been building a bike for ages now, the lack of cash has slowed things down.
Things have started to come together now.
I've had the frame detailed and clear coated, pics are on the thread below:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread52409.html
One of the last pieces of the puzzle is to tidy the stem up. I'm going to get it rechromed, but have one problem......
You can see the spacer I have is a bodge job. Has anyone got an idea where I might source a spacer that would be similar to the original in the third picture.
Thanks again,
Alex

So I'm finally putting my bike together after many dramas that have got in the way.
It's at the paint shop at the moment, should look pretty damn good when it comes out.
The next parts are the wheels. I managed to get some old bacon slicers off a guy who found them at a carboot sale, got them cheap!
The bike they came off was a real old track bike with these wheels, inch pitch drive train, so I'm thinking they're 27". I've compared them to some of my 27" clincher rims and they seem a bit smaller. Maybe it's more tubular vs clincher than 27" vs 700. I'll take them to my lbs and compare them to some others.
Has anyone got any advice about getting rid of the old glue before I try and polish them and rebuild them.
Also, any idea of 27" tubular tyres? I think continental still make some.
Cheers,
Alex

Shit, that was a f@#ked couple of months.
Bikes have not been in my head during it.
I picked up the BB 2 weeks ago and sent Skully the cash. I was never going to stitch up anyone along the way, just been hard/consuming for a while.Englishconvictinmelbourne is pretty genius. I would be willing to pay for my crimes I suppose.
If anyone cares anymore I'm getting the frame sprayed in the next couple of weeks, just got to work out about the wheels.

So I posted on here a while ago for some advice about parts that would be good for by '50 Holdsworth.
Thanks to everyone that helped out with that mission. Almost there now.
I got some really nice, very old, very rare, well known hubs and rims the other day. cheap and in Oz, very strange......
Anyway they are 27" and the rims are for tubs.
Does anyone know of any tyres that would look correct on a 50's track bike? Just simple and gum walls is all I'm after....

Alex

So the project is coming along well....just the card thats taking a beating.....
Saddle, Seatpost, Hubs, Rims, Bars, Stem all done......I just need a hand with the following...
I seem to be struggling to find a headset, not even a sighting at the moment.
Can anyone hook me up with one, like the ones mentioned in the above thread.
Also does anyone know if this should be running tubs....I think the wheels I've picked up are old tubs. Anyone know of good period 'gettable' tyres?
I think the crank and pedals will appear at some point along the build.
Thanks to everyone that has sorted me out with bits so far.
Cheers,
Alex

OK, so it seems things are coming together well. With a lot of help from some guys on here. Gonna take the frame to a local shop to get some gold detailing added. Then start the build.
I've got one question, or two actually.
So I've found a crank, it is a 3 pin fluted 6 3/4 Chater Lea crank. There is one downside though, its bent and needs rechroming. Its bent as if too much pressure has been applied on the right side arm, in the direction of pedalling force. In anyones experience, could this be bent back OK? Or should I write it off and keep looking?
Also anyone know of what headset I should be looking for? Or have one to hand?

Cheers for the advice.
Would a Major Taylor be viable as a period stem? I quite like the design, different to most.About the hubs....I stumbled across a lone Harden front hub for about 40 pound a few months ago, mint and spins for ever!
I was going to pair this up with a low flange 70's campy hub. I was getting these built for a 70's raleigh.....which has now been replaced by this.
Not exactly 100% correct.....should be OK though.

Cheers for the help.
I had seen that previous post but it didn't that relevant as I'm in Oz at the moment.
I think HLloyd might be a winner. I saw a picture of someones rebuild with those rivets, I didn't put two and two together.
The headbadge has already been epoxied onto the frame so I won't be riveting anything. I just wanted the rivet so I can cut them down and stick them in the headbadge holes where they should be. The frame looks like its come out of the factory with its new paint but the holes just look weird.
Cheers, I'll let you know how I get on. One day, when it's actually finished, I post the bike on here.
