Thanks ladies.
It won't let me upload. Apparently because my pics are 2.69mb rather than the 2mb. How do I resize?

I fully admit to being a technophobe when it comes to uploading pics. Much prefer 35mm film :-).

I'm not quite up to riding a fixie or SS yet as I only started cycling a couple of months ago, but maybe one day I'll get to join the elite...
In the mean time, I'm riding 'Tiny Tim'. He's a custom Paul Hewitt frame (bought on ebay and fettled on by the boyf) with 650 wheels - I'm a shortie and have an inside leg of 27", so found it really difficult to get a good fit on the usual 700 wheels.
Love the bike and loving cycling!
Yay, another shortie! I only have a geared bike but am thinking of trying fg/ss in the future. Hopefully I'll make it to Souths on Monday before the money runs out. A very tight month sigh.

Sounds unlikely, as it looks in proportion to my untrained eyes, rather than the massively sloping top tube which small 700c bikes have.
If you want to double check, my GFs bike has 650 wheels which we could throw in, and I've got a set of brakes that would fit to check clearances.
Tell your girlfriend I love you both!!!
I saw Nhatt and she confirmed the 650c wheel size. I have to get the (rear) dropout widened and she's given me the name of someone who can do that for me. When can I come with 'Parrot' (tentative name) to check out the wheels? I live in Balham.
Ooh I'm so excited I could drink a Guinness if I had any - lol

Hi !Nhattattack, thanks for your help and advice earlier. That new stem has made such a difference, I can't believe it! I particularly enjoyed the way having a bike frame strapped to the (road) side of my bike made drivers give me a lot more space than usual :-).
Subject to acquiring green coloured bits for the frame, 'Parrot' is the tentative name - male. Might celebrate with that cider your workmate mentioned - lol.

I have felt for a long time there is a big need for a ladies only bike shop which specialises in OTP stuff for women as well as custom made. With the right marketing they could make a fortune, especially if they specialised in helping the newbies put all the right kit together. I think far many women want to cycle but find the whole atmosphere in bike shops totally intimidating.
+1 oodles of times!!
Would have saved me a few hundred quid over the years.

Awesomely lady-friendly bike shops? They exist? Where?
Enid, female mechs are desperately needed in shops for us wimmin who are complete newbies/nervous about approaching said shops for advice/information etc. In the 4 shops close to where I live, I can only think of one that has a woman staff member. She's front of house, not a mech though.
I've not had any hostile experiences and I have to say my very local lbs has been good to me since I banged my way into their shop 5 years ago.

laner, I am undoubtedly older, fatter and slower than you and yet I can manage forum rides. We need to encourage more women onto them to ensure civility and a decent pace.
That might be up for debate if/when we meet on a ride. Right now I lay claim to the slowest woman on a women's ride (two laden panniers might have something to do with it - lol).
I'd just like to say, I joined the women's rides because they were women-only and I felt more 'comfortable' as none of my family/friends ride and it get's a little lonely. However, I'll be happy to join one of the other rides in the future.
And to think I only joined this site to buy a frame..........

I ride an OTP. It's a Specialized Vita Elite - small. I strongly suspect it's a tad too big for me as I'm below average height, but Corinne/Scheritt's bikefit helped a lot. I may well get a shorter stem as I feel a little too stretched.
My ideal would be custom builds, but until I have the money I'll have to track down WSD bikes that come in XS or XXS - they ain't too common apparently.

Hi Megoid, as per usual I'm lousy with names. You were fab.
I tweaked the brakes late last night (just couldn't leave it til today) and all is well. Went out for a ride during the footy and am now about to clean Babygirl (that's her name) for the week's commute.
Chocolate mini-rolls taste better the day after :-)
I'm possibly up for a Cambridge ride depending on the date and possibility of hills.
-
Charlotte, you could try one of these:

There are other models available, but I've used this one for years with great satisfaction. Definitely recommended if you're keen to do more longer rides.
Despite my abysmal map-reading skills I might get one of these to help me improve. Thanks for tip Oliver.

Just sounds like rock steady to me....
Question for everyone, what was the first dub track you heard?
Mine: Augustus Pablo meets uptown rockers dub. Still probably one the heaviest dubs I know.
YouTube- King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown - Augustus Pablo
Lord I haven't heard this tune in quite a while. Brings back memories of the All Nations club in Hackney many years ago. This one still reaches my soul.
Just took a quick listen to some of the tracks posted here. Memory lane or what? The music of my childhood/teen years and still the most important/loved music to me. Glad to see the music remains appreciated these days.
Carry on :-)

Good morning one and all. +1 to everything already posted re yesterday. Great ride, lovely people despite the mechanicals and the hills.
My body is in revolt so I am moving around very slowly but hoping to get out for a short ride during THE GAME later.
I learnt a few things yesterday:
- Travelling light is a worthy objective
- The P* fairy visits when she pleases
- My legs are stronger than I realised, hill failures excepted
- Long rides = more food!
- Another bike to be had
- Downhill is worth the pain and effort
- Ditchling is to be walked or driven. Not attempting to ride it. Ever.
I'll put up the few pics I took later today or in the week.
Many, many thanks to VeeVee and the other lady who helped me with my p* problems.Enjoy Sunday everyone. I hope to see you again.
PS: What time is the Monday drinks at Souths? I might, possibly, have £5 left to my name for a Guinness :-)
- Travelling light is a worthy objective
Trek 1.2 WSD comes with 650c wheels.
Edit 12/7: Went to On Your Bike to arrange for a test ride only to discover the smallest size they have - 47cm comes with 700c wheels. The member of staff even trawled the website for me. Trek do a smaller size, 43cm which I'm guessing is the one with the smaller wheels, so I've emailed them for clarification.
Will report back.
