Hey all. I'm looking for a hub geared bike.
Money is tight enough and a Charge Tap seems to fit the bill. I like the skinny tubes and ride position of that style of bike, even though I'll probably change that with different handlebars etc... over time. + I like the idea of a steel framed bike for hitting potholes and up and down curbs.Only thing is, I haven't had much luck finding reviews of the bike, or even discussions on here. Has anyone here had any experience of the Tap? Charge bikes wouldn't be very common over here (Dublin).
Any feedback appreciated.

if you buy a bike and it promptly disintegrates and the cost of upgrading all the shit components is over a hundred pounds then you may as well have spent the money properly first off
these are the type of bikes that will render people frustrated with cycling and will put a lot of people off
yes there are some like reen who took the bull by the horns and made a success, but only by replacing every fucking component until he got rid of the frame too
hardly a stunning reccomendation
This is good advice, the type of comment someone looking at these bikes should read.

TBH
I think allot of the sarcastic advice being doled out here is pure ignorant - veiled by suggesting that the OP deserves a shit bike because he is considering a Create. The fact that the OP is here asking advice shows that he is interested in doing the best thing and is researching whats best to do. He may not be part of a wider cycling community & may not have access to people who can advise him properly, but its people like him that will widen the cycling community which is exactly what is needed to get better facilities and safer environments for us all. So go easy on the newbies.
BTW, I think the closed notion of the fixed gear community & their slagging off of hipsters, newbies etc. is hilarious. If you read through this forum you will notice that the vast majority of FG & SSers put a huge amount of effort into their look & trick parts for their bikes... Just as much effort as the hipsters. There are an arrogant group of snobs within the FG community who think they are better than others for some obscure reason - mostly because they believe they are not fashionistas, where the opposite is actually true, There is one protagonist who I'm referring to in particular & has come to my attention on many occasion on these boards - as he seems to act the arsehole in as many threads as possible.

We won't offer frame sizing advise by phone or email.
Its proved time and time again not to be worth it.If you tell us what size you want we are happy to sell it to you, but we can't take the responsibility for telling you the size. If we do, we are just guessing, and if we guess wrong and you build it and find its the wrong size its suddenly all our fault and you want to return it having been built and probably chipped. So we just don't do it any more.
Its a store policy I whole heartedly endorse. Its to everyone's benefit really.
Very reasonable approach...

I was going to order a charge on over the interweb. Being 6'2"+ I thought it'd be a no brainer to order a large... However, I found a bike shop that sells them here (Ireland) & sat on a medium to try it out & it felt astonishingly good. The bike shop in question hasn't added a paddy tax, so I'll get it there and get a proper fitting while I'm at it...
Hey all, thanks for the feedback. I went for the Tap in the end. Am delighted with my purchase.the weight isn't a problem. I reckon it was good value too at €660 , which matches Wiggle + they threw in an krypto evo mini, a first service (which I can do myself, but its a bonus all the same) and they changed the saddle for me. A year ago they would have added a paddy tax just for the sake of it, so this recession has its advantages. Cycle surgery wanted €850 for the same bike.
Sorry for adding gears to the site, but there seems to be a fair bit of discussion about geared hubs on here. I'll come back for some proper discussion when I get to building a ss. ;)
BTW I realise there's plenty of charge bikes over there, but they are a rarity here.
