So last week discovered after 3 days of riding fixed that my lockring was loose. So been away on work back on the commute had to flip the hub to the SS side to ride the bike into town so I can tighten the lock ring on the fixed side (as I dont have the tools myself) coming up to the traffic lights try spastically to resist the pedals with no result. Strangly I felt like I had very little controll, and missed immensely the sensation of riding fixed.
Hope today all will be sorted and ride home fixed!

Thanks for all the suggestions, finally I chartered a small bus and driver, we have driven all day and are in Calais at the eurotunnel port. (I also sold tickets on my rented bus to other stranded people to cover the cost of me and my team (cash only), just to break even not for profit)
In the mean time I called a friend who bought a clapped out old mercedes sprinter in the UK this morning and is ariving on the next train from the UK, we will get in and we are booked on the next train back to the UK!!!
When we get back we will hopefully sell the van for as much as we paid. (Add in the refund we are getting from the airline and this actually saved money on the trip back, it just cost FUCKING LOADS OF TIME!!!)
Plus the extra hotel nights, but all in all after having heard the ferry is sold out for foot passengers until wednesday and no sign of airports opening any time soon, I am gone get on the train have a beer and pat myself on the back.
UK here I come!

personally, i think the chartered bus will be the cheapest.
Well I am selling on the free seats to other people at the airport (at a small profit) to help cover the cost of my own team so it should cost next to nothing the problem is this only gets us to Calais. And not back to London. and this last bit is proving the hardest bit a bottle neck.
Have looked at other routs, like Holland to Hull, Cherbourg, Brouge, Dunkerque etc. all the same... maybe by the time we get to calais there will be more boats....

TGV is booked out tried to get to paris already even 1st class.
Station is chaos, i will go again tomorrow at 8am (before its busy) to buy tickets there. if not at 9 called these people http://www.privejets.com/charter_request.php they have small turbo prop planes and small jets. find out how much and IF they wil risk it.
If not i will continue with the chartered bus to calais plan. And pray i find a way to make the final bit to the UK!
Also i am trying to economise, as our offices are short staffed because we are stuck here, we are loosing revenue, and income, and I am paying for hotels and food for 7 people. every day in F-off expensive conditions (bastards are just profiteering from out situation) and i will have to justify to my boss the expenses. and my decisions based on the information I have.
pffff I miss riding my bike and un winding.... am ever so slightly stressed but not letting it show, so as not to stress out the team. i am going to the bar for a drink.

Private plane? Apparently the no fly restrictions don't actually mean no flying so if you can find a pilot willing to take the risk (and finding a pilot who likes risk is simple) then you could get back here. It'll cost though.
Are you serious!!! This is great, you know this is how Richard Brandson Started Virgin Atlantic.
His flight was canceled couldn't get another ticket so he chartered a plane walked around selling seats on it to other passengers and just wrote virgin Atlantic on a clipboard.
(Apparently)
So now I just need a pilot a plane, and some money to put down. I will keep you informed if I actually manage to pull this off. Unlikely but i have F*ck all else as options at the moment so may as well spend my time working this one out.

Eurostar for my whole team would cost £1500,- plus not till sunday so another night with 4 hotel rooms as we are 7 ppl in total.
bicycles doesnt get us on the ferry they are not accepting foot passengers (or people on bikes)
@Pistanator I am in Milan now, people here are saying they may close Milan airport tomorrow.
I would thumb it but my staff did not bum around like me when they were students and are a bit nervous about thumbing it (a few young ladies worried about going alone, so i am trying to keep ppl together as much as possible) also hope my credit card doesn't max out soon as then i am royally up shit creek.
thanks for suggestions keep em comming

Okay flew out Thursday Morning to Milan for work we are trapped, every hire car for 100km has been rented. No planes, ferries are not taking ANY foot passenger reservations until monday, more than a Million people displaced.
Also all the hotels are full and charging stupid money. First available ticket by plane is sunday night £880 on BA at 11:45PM.
I have even tried to buy a 2nd hand van to get me and 7 colleagues home (cheaper than staying here in the hotel until problem is over) but I am not registered in Italy so thats not possible.
I have now chartered a bus to drive me and 30 other people from Milan to Calais, but he wont take us on the ferry and none of the ferries are taking foot passengers.
I know this is a really long shot..... but any one own a boat? (remember Dunquerque) or a van that can seat 6 people who wants to have a return trip to calais, get cheap fags and booze. (I only need to get my 6 staff back, even if you cannot take me)
I have a duty of care to my team to get them home no matter what.
Any help suggestions welcome.

I think: " which were all...." just sounds more correct who seems more personal to a person or living being, not a landmass defined by borders.
But what do I know, I am a foreigner....
Other wise couldnt you say: "these countries are all signatories to the treaty"
Or " These countries did all sign the treaty" ???

Mind, she has been commuting, all be it geared, for about 5 years now. She's got a very dirty mouth as well. It's brilliant when she has a go at cars/vans/taxis/peds with her south London/French accent.
Know what you mean with the French accent, I reckon all French people get quite shouty when angry, also cos she doesn't know how strong the swear words are just rattles of abuse an unsuspecting victims.
But think mine still needs allot of convincing to commute by bike in London, especially after today's horrible accident.

hey,
if you still have the free wheel on the other side of the hub then you could flip your wheel (put brake back on) and ride to w1. i work on wardour st and would be happy to sort out your wheel, show you how to do it your self next time and tell you which tools you'll need. just let me know.obviously you could just ride to your LBS as well.
I suddenly feel very silly, you are completely right, PM is on its way about offer for help.
