This can work and I’ve done it before. I think I used a profile designs quill adapter for the shape, and it then perhaps regular 1 1/8 (?) spacers which fitted over ok, though not perfectly, when everything was tightened down. The problem I found was that the quill adapters like profile or nitto, which don’t have that annoying curved lip, don’t have as much stack height if I remember correctly. So I ended up just buying a Velo orange 31.8 quill stem which worked and looked much better (pic). I think it would be ideal for what you’re after tbh if you’re needing a 31.8 stem

And some pretty bodged efforts at trying to work out the nexus hub… disassembled OK initially, but then dislodged the internal shifter springs and only got one back in place so far… Keeping my fingers crossed I can manage the other one! 🤞🏼

Finally got cups off and headset on. The 50t chainring I had lying around is a bit too close on chainstays, so will prob downsize for something that matches the gearing better soon

Saw Sing Sing a few days ago, really recommend, thought it was beautiful and moving

I’ve been trying to disassemble and regrease/re-oil a shimano nexus inter 7 SG7R40 hub. As I’m taking apart the drive side, I’ve managed to release the 2 shifter springs, basically exactly what the YouTube tutorials told me to be extra careful not to do…

I’m in a bit too deep now, who/where can I take to help me sort it out? Or is it a maybe manageable fix at home…? Has anyone tried this much reassembly for nexus hubs?

Frame stripped and looking in OK condition, nothing seized which is a good start. Headset cups being pretty stubborn with my usual hammer and screwdriver method, so might have to borrow extractor tool or pop to LBS to get removed

Hub seems in Ok condition, spare cassette joint ordered from SJS

Yeah I think this one is something like 60 squared. Did consider those bar end shifters, would definitely use that if I was running drops but it will be a flat bar build

Looks like nexus 7 trigger shifters are quite hard to find, ordered one of these Microshift ones which I hope works out OK

Don’t usually do build threads, but very excited to grab this Cannondale c200 on marketplace yesterday. Frame itself looks in pretty good shape, and will keep the wheels

Think I’ll go all black parts for now, though reckon it might look good with silver finishing kit at some point

Got a VO 31.8 stem and some on one Mary’s to go on it. 700x40 and some nice mudguards I reckon. No shifter attached to the nexus 7 hub so will need to work out if that’s working and service probably. Never built one before so some stuff to learn!
