Yeah I am tempted to! I can't find too much info on them on here though - I think if I read everywhere how amazing they were, I would, though I can't seem to find many reviews. Any words on them?!
Would love to find one second hand, but again, not much joy.
I have the Maurice and am really enjoying it. its the best new bike I could find for almost £300(£315 from evans using code SURVEY10 for 10% off)
And as a first entry into SS for me I'm happy with what I got, this way I can start to understand more about what I like and dont like so when I do build my own I will have had some solid SS experience.
Oh if you do get it on arrival remove the cheap ass rim tape and put some good high pressure rim tape in them wheels(I had 2 'punctures' due to the rim tape not being good enough quality)
-
I guess its as solid as your going to get for just over £300 (I used code survey10 with evans to get 10% off)
only done 10 miole so far as in London at the mo but have had everything to bits and back together and everything seems great, nicely welded and apart from the orange paint on the rims starting to dust off a little under the break pads its been fine.
oh and add some decent rim tape of course ;)
-
Ok so just had a look at the bits and the rim tape(rubber) that came pre fitted seems like a cheap pos!
the continental tape they have sent out is a proper high pressure rim tape its almost a fabric! much more secure and thicker so I will fit that to both wheels. and contact them to find out why they think that saving a few pence on cheap rimtape is a good idea!
Thanks all.

Once you've understood exactly what's wrong and why it's happening, take it back and let them replace the rim tape, the innertube and any possible fault with the rim itself at their expense.
To be fair to evans they have been pretty good, when it arrived flat they immediatley posted me 4! new pirelli inner tubes and a rim tape, but it seems like teh rim tape isnt strong enough? why would that be the case it is pirelli too... I dont get why it is happening but a better rim tape I guess would make sense, but does everyone have to do this? buy new bike get puncture every 5 miles..

Hi
I got a new bike from Evans Maurice Mongoose and whwn it arrived i couldnt pump tire up! already had a hole.
I removed innertube and found hole was on the inside of the innertube...hmmm I thought thats weird. So I looked and could not see where hole had been taht there was also a hole in the rim strip like a spoke had gone straight through it? is taht even possible?
I also noticed the hole in the wheel is a little scuffed and looks like someone has almost tried to get a screwdriver through that was too big.
am I getting punctures because the spoke is moving?? It feels solid, or is the pressure on the tube so high that the scuffed hole and potentially sharp edge of it is causing teh problem?
any suggestions? thanks

Hey im new to all this and have not decided if i want to go clipless or use some kind of foot strap or etc etc.
Anyway basically I want some pedals and shoes that will do me for a couple of hundred miles to see if i want to go clipless or not.
Im in derby but working in Canary wharf for next few weeks so could arrange to meet up.
Thanks

i can ride on the backs of my pedals in normal shoes, as you should have the saddle a lil lower when riding on cleats to give you good pulling up power you can still reach them in trainers. I know it goes against all that foot retention business but if its only 5 mins it really wont be a problem i ride from old st to brick lane like this all the time (but probs no further than that). If you ride with any of the road specific pedals they work well as flats. Mtn bike pedals i am not so up on but i have deff seen ones which are clearly designed to work as both cleats and flats.
Thanks think I will have a wander over to blb when im in London next week.
-
You say you ride 100 miles a week my guess on a commute if i am correct go clippless cause you will probs have to change your shoes when you get to work any way.
Thanks for that, I do but also want to be able to just jump on and nip out for 5 mins in normal trainers, etc
I may start with some kind of strap just to see if that is ok for me and then next time I need new shoes go for clipless.

Been reading lots today as i got a call saying my bike had been delivered.
So got home and set it up using some info I found on here, tightened everything up and took it for a ride (5 miles) got back home and checked everything was still nice and tight(it was).
really enjoyed the ride and the bike felt great, so light compated to my Halfords special mountain bike I have had for the past yearish!(£120 and did 100 miles a week on it for about 5 months) didnt miss the gears at all only had to tackle one steep hill(bigger than I will do on my work run) and actually found it ok.
My average speed was also slightly higher but it was a shorter run so will see what the Garmin says after my ride tomorrow.
Thanks all for the info, going to order some foot retention next after reading all those links.
Im down in Canary Wharf with work all next week any good shops within walking distance(apart from Evans)

has any one ever got into a police chase?
I did once about 2 in morning in the week and I was at a red ligth but wasnt heavy enough to make the sensor see me so looked and went through.
As I was about halfway through looked to my right and saw police sat in bus stop they turned blues on and started pulling out so I quickly turned right and then right again and went straight up a random drive and turned lights off.
didnt see em so waited 30 mins and carried on.
Not a very exciting chase really.

you have a lot to learn if you have not yet discovered why you need foot retention riding fixed
please spend some time either talking with other people who ride fixed or do some research
your bike was sold single speed, so clips are not so essential
Well yeh thats why I was asking questions.
I'll do my best to talk to some fixed riders then, but obviously I cant talk to people on here about it right?

Your right and wrong slimjim.
I had been reading the forums and was excited about getting my new bike and it being my first one of this type, so I posted a hello and asked a few questions. however no there was no 'make a stand' plan.
As i have said on previous page I prolly did overeact to DJ's comment but I posted the questions because I hadn't found answers that seemed right to me or that I fully understood. And DJ's imo aggressive manner of telling me made me act defensively.
Im now going to go and look up clips using search :) I am wondering why if they are so important they are selling me a bike without the fuckers mind!!
Thanks for the info and suggestions folks.

I found Sheldon before I found this forum. If you search for something complex like, I dunno, 'Road Bikes' in Google, you'll come across Sheldon within an hour, and thus the answers to your questions.
Ha!
I wish I had found it first! unfortunately i found this forum first when i searched for single speed bikes and was spending some time reading the info on here and then posting on here.
Maybe you could speak to google and get them to rank sheldonbrown higher than lfgss.com that should help in stopping new people coming here without having first done the required hours of research.
Ok hi everyone firstly I apologise for having such a cheap tacky horrible looking bike!
(I like it though ;) )

However its been great for me on my commute doing 20 miles a day, however I have a loose chain and no more room to move my rear wheel or it will fall off, Im not that much of an idiot... probably!
I was planning to get a chain tool and take a couple of links out. however a guy I know saidthis to me
"Rule of thumb is change your rear cog/cassette every 2nd chain and the rings every 3rd/5th depending on usage – obviously snapped/broken chains don’t count, as a chain should last 500-1000 miles."
now i didnt realise this and have done approx 2500 miles on my current chain...
so firstly do I need new everything? if so what would anyone reccomend, I cant seem to find many 48t compact chainrings, and what bits do i need to swap out to replace the Dicta 16t?
I have been riding SS rather than fixed as its pretty hilly round my way, and finnally if I wanted to make it slightly easier to pedal at a higher speed and harder uphill what is the best way of achieving that?
Thanks
