Hi,

I don't have the tools to remove the lockring and cog, so these are included.

I am doing it this year, along with bigpaintbrush. It was a really nice ride last time I did it - nicely challenging without being a killer.
Well organised too and very good food stops.
Rained like a pig last time, and everyone was getting punctures, I had 4! I would recommend sturdy tyres if it's wet. I think it is because the road surface is made from very sharp Flinty stones.
-
Yup, that's me. I forced myself to do some cleaning and tinkering after the ride, so she's back lookin' sweet as...
Bad luck with the punctures - we were just behind you when you had one fairly early on. I remember doing a sportive in the rain in Kent and getting 4 flats once - I could've wept!
Nice De-Rosa you've got, your friend was on an aluminium Colnago wasn't he?
Benj - were you on the yellow master olympic? - rather nice I thought.
Pro's don't have winter bikes (but they do get new ones a bit more frequently than the rest of us) - reminds me, I'd better put mine in the shed - it's currently being cleaned outside in the rain.
-
Sorry to hear some cnut moved the signs around. A large chunk of time was spent making sure they were solid and fastened well, alas, it seems there are some challenged people out there.
Pretty much inevitable I'd have thought. Overall it was a very well organised event, and, as has been mentioned, the cakes at the halfway stop were truly bitchin'.
-
I was going to ride my winter bike, which is a Mercian Vincitore with mudguards, but:
a, It is nearly as pretty as the colnago (and more aged)
b, it is for sale in the classifieds at the mo. so didn't really feel inclined to get it filthy, after lavishing tlc on it to get it ready to sell.Having said that I take the point about mudguards - my eyes are still bloodshot from all the crap they got in them today.
There were some beautiful bikes around today: modern and vintage...
Bit of a preponderance of deep section wheels - not something I'd fancy in that wind!
-
Did it with Benj ^^ (although he beat me home despite his navigational malfunction). I thought I was mighty on the way out such was the tail wind but paid for it coming back in. I'm crap at this cycling lark. Couple of lovely folks out there today. Unified by gritty faces and gusty headwinds. I'm bushed now though. Was being overtaken by every man and his dog by the end.
Anyone know whether they publish the times? I'd like to know just how crap I actually was.
Pay no attention to this! Mr Jones was pretty good out there today. We were back only a couple of minutes before you, dude.
Sorry I couldn't give you a lift home, I felt well guilty as the heating kicked in, and I wafted homewards. If it's any consolation I got stuck in a shitty traffic jam on the a12. Next time I'll bring a rack so we can all take advantage of the wheels...
See you next weekend and we can have another crack at Surrey. Hopefully, we won't get lost this time ( gotta get one of them thur garmin things).
-
Some toerag turned one of the signs round and many riders ended up going the wrong way. My friend and I ended up doing 5 miles out of our way before clinging on to the wheel of someone who knew where they were going. Lovely chap, I'm very grateful for being towed back, though i felt guilty for not taking a turn at the front, battling the wind, but I was fighting cramp by then and it was all I could do to keep up. There is quite a beastly long climb near the end. It is a gentle incline, but I was pretty wiped by the top.
Anyway, great dirty, cold, wet fun. Super route, may well try and make it a weekend trainer...

Hi,
I know you don't want to split, but if you do, holler. I'm interested in the frame, forks, headset.
Cheers,
Jon
I am considering splitting actually, but will give it another day or two.
I think I would want about £200 for the frame, fork, headset and bottom bracket (which is some fancy carbon thing, can't remember the make though). -
-
I've had a few Ti bikes, and they are great, but none of them were as good as my 'Nago, lighter but just as bendy and not as fun. Nothing else has that crazily rigid BB and chainstays and pin-sharp steering but carbon IMHO. A good ti bike - Merlin, serotta etc. is about as nice looking as a bike can get though I reckon.
Mr. J.J. If it is still around you are welcome to come and check it out. I'll even put the coffee machine on for you...

I like it!
Do you have some more pics? Thanks! Glad you like it. There are 14 pictures of the bike on the link, are you sure you need more?!
I am more than happy for you to come and have a look/ride in person. If there is anything in particular that you want to see in a picture just let me know and I will take one or two for you.

I have to clear out a couple of bikes in order to make space/funds for a new road bike. Sadly, this is a beaut...
The frame is 59cm st (ctc) and 57cm tt (ctc). It is perfect for me at 6' but there is leeway either side. It is set up with a 5 speed cassette, but spacing would allow for more gears.
It has Cinelli stem and bars, Brookes Swift saddle, Stronglight cranks and chainrings, super fancy Campag high-flange hubs that look a bit like sheriff-stars, but aren't, Mavic Argent rims, Campag downtube shifters, Shimano cantis (With Onza chill-pill cable hangers), Shimano 600 rear derailleur, Conti Gatorskins (fairly new) and a set of Honjo Koken handmade aluminium mudguards. It has cane creek brake levers, but I have the original Shimano 600 levers (which I found very uncomfortable) and will include them.
To be completely honest, the bike could do with a more caring owner. It has been well maintained in general, but the hubs have got a little bit tarnished and could do with a polish, as could the mudguards. There is a small scrape on the downtube (purely cosmetic) from being on a rack on a car. It could use a new chain and the rear wheel is very slightly out of true. Otherwise it is in amazing condition for a 25 year old bike.
Not entirely sure of value. If you want a new frame like this Mercian will sting you vituperatively. Let's say £725 - is that about right? Now £650

Plastic comes and goes....steel lasts....stay with it.
BTW....love those cats of yours.....now those i would like....beautiful pair.
Thanks Chum,
They are brilliant, very affectionate, but completely lawless. Think carefully before getting Bengals! We are down an ipad, two laptop chargers, an Archille Castiglioni lamp and a wall of fancy wallpaper!
My wife has just bought a Trek Madone and it is so nice to ride, and very fast. I hate the look of it, and pretty much all blingy crabon bikes, but my mind is full of images of me climbing like Pantani if only I had one...
Ben
Indeed...
