For sale, 1984 Holdsworth Elan road bike
I picked this up about 6 years ago in good nick and used it for my daily hack for around 5 of those. It’s just been rebuilt but I have neither the space or need for another bike. Since completion I’ve done about 25 dry miles to double check all is in good working order.
F+F: Reynolds 531, 54cm seat (c-t-t), 56cm toptube (c-t-c), 126mm rear
Headset: Stronglight A9 alloy (less than one years old)
B/B: Shimano UN55 (less than one years old)
Mechs: Shimano 105
Brakes: Shimano 105
Shifters: Shimano 105 14 speed friction and index
Chainset: SR 165mm
Cassette: Shimano 7 speed
Rims: Mavic Open S.U.P CD
Hubs: Shimano 105 7speed
Spokes: DT Swiss
Tyres: Continental Ultra 25c
Stem: GB Avanti Biba
Bars: GB Premiere Marque
Tape: Cinelli Cork (new)
Seatpost: Strong Japan 27.2mm
Saddle: Selle
Pedals: SRThe tyres look like new and it’s had new cables, rear pads and inner tubes.
Although used in all weather it’s always been stored in the dry, unfortunately for 2 years it was being locked up on London Bridge bike platform and the frame has picked up a fair amount of scuffs and scrapes. Very few of those are deep but some of the decals are showing fair signs of wear. There is a dent on the seat-tube behind the mech clamp, it’s been there since I got the bike and has caused no problems or showed any signs of worsening. I did look into having the frame restored but the overwhelming response was to leave it patina’d so other than treating any surface rust with genolite and giving it several coats of wax polish to protect it I’ve left it as is.
The original mismatched groupset has been upgraded over the years to full (except original SR chainset) Shimano 105 (1055/1056 era) and is all in very good condition.
The wheels were new and unused when I put them on the bike (original owner had them built for a project that didn’t get going). Recently I put them on my new bike for a few weeks whilst waiting for my new rims, and when I went to the shop to collect my RS30’s he asked me why I was replacing quality wheels with cheap shit! There’s still plenty of life in the rims, when servicing the hubs I noticed some pitting on the front cones. I’ve introduced a little play in the front hub to keep it smooth but you would want to replace the cones at some point.
The stem, bars, seatpost, saddle and pedals are all original items.
Everything moves freely, all threads in excellent condition, all service items recently replaced with new parts.
Rides very nicely, NEW LOWER PRICE £230 ono, located in Whitechapel
NOTE: chain in pics was for photos only and has been replaced with one of correct length. Sloppy bar tape on left had side has been tidied, Flite saddle has been replaced with the original Selle. Will get some close up shots of groupset soon.
Cheers

Hi,
this should be up for sale by the end of the weekend
http://www.lfgss.com/thread118671.html
1984 Holdsworth Elan (531r F+F) with 1990's Shimano 105.
I'm gonna post full spec up but it'll come with a more female friendly Selle saddle and flat SR pedals, both original spec (i'll also be throwing in some shimano clipless if she wants to try them).
As it's just been built i want to try and cover a few more dry miles to make sure all is good.
Looking for £275, located in Whitechapel
Cheers

For sale:
Vittoria Open Corsa Evo Tech 2, 700X23c clinchers, new in boxes. Brought these a couple weeks ago of here but there now surplus to requirements, very nice tyres, would like back what i paid, £38 the pair.
Shimano Sora ST-3300 7 speed STI shifters, triple front but i used it for a double and it worked well with 2 clicks instead of one. The rear was brought NOS a few years ago, the front was sourced here. Mechanically excellent, cosmetically good but the usual scuffs and marks, perfect for a down tube to STI conversion, £40.
Shimano RX-100 Front mech, braze on, vgc £8
collection from Whitechapel, Clerkenwell or possibly Camberwell on weekends
Cheers.

Finally got all the bits i needed so time to put an end to this:
Frame stripped and given a protective coat of wax polish
Pointless build pic
Job done
it needs a little adjusting but i took it for a spin round the block and it was smooth as butter. I've got the original selle Italia saddle and SR Japan track pedals to clean up and fit, once that's done and it's going up for sale
THE END.

Cheers guys,
To be fair even if i leave it patina i'd still be an idiot...
It's good to know people favour originality, i'm allot more involved with classic/old school cars and originality always wins. I'm less experienced with bikes and keep seeing nice looking classics getting armourtexed etc and keep wandering why!

Hope i'm in the right area...
My 84 Holdsworth project is taking allot longer than expected to complete due to the sourcing of some small, irritating (and not so cheap) little bits.
As it's been sitting at the end of my bed for a couple weeks now i've been deliberating what to do about the condition of the frame and thought i'd ask what people opinions are on such things.
Frame:
Project:
http://www.lfgss.com/thread118671.html
As far as i can tell the frame is 100% straight with no cracks but there is a small dent and the condition of the paint in some areas isn't great. It was pretty much in that condition when i got hold of it (dent sneakily concealed behind FD clamp). It's been off the road for 6 months now but prior to that it was used most days for about 5 years and the condition has never really deteriorated.
I guess what i'm asking is do people think this is a frame worth restoring? Is the condition at a point which puts it in the 'beater' bracket or for some is their a certain 'charm' with looking its age?
FYI, I have access to a compressor and can spray cellulose.
There's a good chance i'll be selling the bike but this question isn't about how much value can i add it's that i'd like to build this thing to the best of my ability
cheers!
