This is a handy thread, I'd like some new running gear this year. The following might be of interest if they're unknown:

Yep, pretty sure.
The lead flashing around the chimneys has failed, as has the lead-lining on the parapet guttering (although this is mostly affecting the wall).
We're having the leadwork repaired asap, but I'm worried about how long it'll take the timber and the condensation to dry out with the existing sub-par ventilation.
-
Any tips on the best mechanical ventilation approach to combat condensation in a cold roof?
Our roof was fitted (by a previous owner) with a completely impermeable membrane, and no ventilation at all. The seller fitted some vent tiles, and I've since fitted some lap vents but some leadwork has recently failed and the considerable moisture that's built up has nowhere to go.
We can't afford to replace the roof right now, but I want/need to do something relatively quickly to protect the timbers in the roof. The best (read: relatively affordable and easy) idea I can come up with is to fit some mechanical ventilation in the loft space.
Should I go for extraction or PIV in these circumstances?
The loft is well insulated/sealed from the livable spaces, if that makes a difference

Oh good luck with the install! I like the sound of no subframes mind.
@TTM happy to share what I find, should be getting quotes for a couple of options back from Storm this week.
The Clearview site has an impressive quote builder I'd recommend having a play with. https://clearviewsg.co.uk/

@eskay @andos @Jonny69 thanks for the replies folks.
Clearview are on our shorlist as it happens, so it's good to hear of first hand experience with them. A big part of the concern is whether/how they'll change the look of the windows.
We got a quote from them and they were cheaper than expected, but still twice the price of removable (but non-opening) plastic jobbies

Does anyone have any experience with secondary glazing?
We're gonna get some this Autumn but I'm finding it difficult to work out which is the best option between glass and plastic.
Can't seem to find an impartial source for which has the lower u value. Glass sellers say glass does, and vice versa with plastic sellers.

Top tip is to ask the garage/tyre place not to blast the ugga dugga at your wheel bolts but instead torque them to spec. The air ratchet will almost certainly be far tighter than it needs to be.
That said I could not get the old place to do this, so I got into the habit of slackening the bolts with a breaker bar and then torquing to spec whenever it'd been in for wheel work.

Just stumbled across this shop in Palma. A bit borderline cringe with some of the details/catchphrases, and the fabric on some of the jerseys seemed really plasticy, but the bibs and lighter weight jerseys seemed great.

Hello folks, potential cross post with the orient express thread, but has anyone with an older Canyon tried these replacement hylix forks?
They're for the stupid 1 1/4" Across headset thing Canyon did for a bit.
I gather hylix have been around for a while so I'm sure the quality is fine, but it still feels mildly risky to buy third party forks for such a particular headset/steerer situation.

Is the wheel bearing in the attached video on the way out? It's accompanied by a humming noise above 30mph. Loudest at 40 then road/wind noise starts to cover it.
No lateral or vertical play that I could see, though.
I don't think the brakes are rubbing - there's no sticking when removing the handbrake and i can't detect an excess of heat in the calliper/wheel compared to the other side.

Presumably people who don't speak English.
Americans, so yes 🌚
Interesting answers though, thanks all. Seems I was not fully aware of its textbook use(s), but I'm happy to be in the retrogrouch camp till I find myself telling my partner they look "really aesthetic in that."
And @chez_jay would rep

Have I been misusing the word "aesthetic" all my life, or has it changed a bit?
I'd previously understood it to refer the visual properties of a thing - something could be aesthetically pleasing or not, or have positive or negative aesthetics.
However I keep seeing people refer to things as aesthetic, e.g "that's aesthetic" or "how I became aesthetic".
Am I daft or is that sort of thing a new use of the word? The second example seems equivalent to saying something like "how I became height".
Edit to add I do not think these people are confusing aesthetic with ascetic.

Has anyone used a Rode VideoMic Go ii (or any shotgun mic) for a shared office space?
I’m sick of my headset, the earphones are shite, and the mic bleeds like mad and picks up my girlfriend sitting opposite when she's on her own calls.
I know shotguns are supposed to be highly directional and I’m sure the quality will be much higher, but thought I’d check here before i bite the bullet

Has anyone bought from a car supermarket before? Specifically CarShop?
I’m in the market and the majority of the ads for the car i want are from CarShop. I’m not sure why but they don’t inspire confidence.
I assume their profit is in volume and they’re not necessarily the highest quality cars, but this is nothing but a hunch. Anyone have any experience with them?

Both of your rides need public visibility for it to work though.
A very soft "should I sell this?" post.
It's been my only road bike for a couple of years and I want to go back to something a bit lighter. The groupset and wheels are going over to another frame, and I could sell and use the cash for some other parts I need for the new build, and possibly my pub bike.
On the other hand, it's beautiful and I think I might miss it eventually.
