Perfect thread!
The seams on my Chrome Urban Ex backpack have given up.
It's actually the third bag I have had through their lifetime warranty that has given out like this.
Not keen on another of the Chrome Industries heat welded seam bags, they just aren't up to it.I do a cycle, train, cycle commute in all weather and do a fair amount of 2 or 3 day flight trips for work so looking for something that can handle both.
Have been thinking about one of these - https://www.stubbleandco.com/products/hybrid-backpack-30lHas anyone got any experience of this brand or model?

I UTFS and I couldn't find a generic bag thread, so asking here.

We are down in Lewes, East Sussex.
I think we will go with cavitech-uk.com.For docs and certs, ChatGPT suggests
- CIGA Guarantee: The Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) provides a 25-year guarantee for cavity wall insulation. Ensure that the contractor is registered with CIGA and that you receive this guarantee.
- BBA Certification: The British Board of Agrément (BBA) certifies construction products and systems. Ensure that the insulation material and the installation process are BBA certified.
- Installer Certification: Verify that the contractor is certified by a recognized body such as the National Insulation Association (NIA) or the British Board of Agrément (BBA).

I built this for my wife 7 or so years ago.
It has been used as a lovely little get around, but is in need of a.bit of fettling. Some decent parts on it, and some hacks and comprises.
Currently set up as 1x but could be run as 2 x at the front with a band on mech if you fancy.
The good
- Velo Orange swept back bars.
- Dia compe levers
- Shimano long drop brakes
- Decent saddle (like a charge saddle kinda thing)
- brand new 700x28c Duranos, less than 50miles on them
- Strong light cranks
- MKS Sylvan pedals
- Suntour down tube shifters
- tiagra long cage mech from the spares bin
- wheel set from Christ knows where. Spin smooth and true though.
- Kalin quil stem
- Frame is decent quality lugged steel, could well be 531. I think it's an old Orbit.
The bad
The chain throws off the front ring a lot and I can't quite figure out why.
Chain line is ok.
It might just need a new chain and cassette. The ugly
- The paint work is ratty after many years of being hacked about London and locked up.
Bits of surface rust but nothing concerning. - The, once dead fancy, hand stitched leather grips are tatty and coming undone.
Bike is down in Lewes but we could meet in Clapham Junction or Victoria on one of the days we are in London.
I think
£140£120 is fair for the lot.You could even consider £140 a great price for a pair of barely used Duranos, some VO swept back bars, nice MKS quil pedals and a barely ridden saddle
- Velo Orange swept back bars.

Interesting, thanks for this intel.
I haven't done masses of research yet, but am desperate to get off the big smelly oil tank in the garden. After PVs we will tackle the cavity wall insulation then see what is left for heating.
For context we have just bought a 1970s house that hasn't been touched since the day it was built and are trying to get our heads around how to bring it up to spec without over investing.

My octopus quote comes in at
13 panels (13 * 440w =5720 w)
13 x inverters
2 x 10Kwh batteries
Bird Proofing
Scaffolding
Installation
£10,2205Which seems reasonable to me.
Tempted to ask for 2 more panels as our intent is to dead off the oil central heating and install electric underfloor heating throughout -

We just did a week here.
https://www.thewildmanwoods.com/Very very remote, mostly cycle tourists and through hikers.
Quite basic, no hot water on site but a wash in the river is life affirming. -
Quick fire opinions please.
Which option would you go for?Option 1
Spend £12k now getting an array of 14 PVs and 2 whopping big batteries now and reduce electricity outlay to nearly nothing.Risk - We spend ££ then in 6months there is a bang up scheme that would have saved us £8k or something
Or
Option 2
Hold fire and see what Kier and the lads have in store for the 'rooftop revolution' on energy?Risk - We keep paying unspeakable amounts of money on energy (Approx £260 a month) and burning funds while we wait to see if anything happens and there is also a risk that any grants or schemes will be means tested which we almost certainly won't qualify for.
Wait til the October budget?
