It is but it’s also such a niche sport if you fancy having a go you could instantly be about top 20 in the uk! My son does it a bit and it is to quote their coach ‘a dying sport’ where few people race, fewer people train, the bottom of the participation pyramid is tiny but they can’t stop trying to force kids to race straight away!

Somehow I’ve lived for 6 years with a view from upstairs of Holme Moss radio mast about 25km away and
A. Never realised that’s what it was
B. Never ridden to it
Today I fixed both errors of judgement and it was well worth it. 2hr30 round trip, mostly back roads, brief 500m or so on woodhead pass. This was the easy side of Holme Moss -

I don’t really get why sport is going onto one or two big companies. Surely the age of streaming means each individual sport should have its own channel/ service so people with niche interests watch only the thing they’re into, and people with multiple interests pay several seperate fees!
I assume it’s because a gcn style model isn’t economical? -

Insane riding folks well done
Agreed on the Fryery, though the bakery on the junction is top notch too.
Goyt Valley and the parallel Long Hill are both superb climbs, Goyt having the benefit of very few cars.
Winnats when it’s quiet is stunning so congrats on timing that right as it often is a nightmare! -
Yeh some stone arrived ready for putting soak away drains in/ improving the current not very effective drains and a local groundwork company kindly loaned us a JCB for the morning which did an awesome job of scraping off all the old muck, overgrowth and mixed stone that had been used so the main area is now level.
It’s now much safer to work in and move vehicles about, easier to put the drainage channels in and easier to mark out the new balance bike loop.
Lots still to do! Weather has not been helping -
Do people using bestbikesplit find it to be accurate? Ie if I do the same time it predicted for a 90km bike leg but 60watts more do I assume
Bestbikesplit is wrong
My power meter is over reading
I’m wasting loads of power by not optimising (partly as I got a new emergency replacement bike the week of the race!)
I’m open to all 3 being partly true! -
Yeh I’d pay for closed roads!
Lakesman was fun at weekend, but traffic on the return leg of the bike was a pain, going 40km h between riders to overtake and a line of cars rolling along was sketchy!
My legs are toast today, lack of runs over 15km in training paid me back. Good event though, albeit Keswick is chaotic already without about 1500 people descending on the town! -

Next dumb question, why the eff does the tour of Britain start the week when schools go back, ie unless it goes past your school it’s impossible to go and watch?
I get there’s a calendar to fit into etc but if you want more families travelling to watch (maybe they don’t) having it a week earlier seems an easy win. -
Dreadful coverage, fantastic racing
