If I knew where it was I might venture out, although I don't know south (or any part of) Manchester too well. Don't think I could work out how to get to this floop without getting myself lost in its wilderness.

Spotted Rogan riding round the velodrome at 11pm this evening along with WillHouse smashing the fastest lap of the hour time.

There are some lovely bikes being built up. I would be jealous, but, well, I only have eyes for Nelson. He is now finished, after a battle to get the tyres on, rebuilding the bb a couple of times due to ball bearing issues (my fault for buying the wrong size), & I am now looking forward to next weeks velodrome session even more.

I'm going to try out 48/14 but also need 48/15 for the accreditations (needs to be the same ratio as the hire bikes). I have missed riding this bike the past month or so & hope I can do it justice on the track...I may need a few leg days...

Although I have had this bike for a while now he is going through a thorough clean & is being rebuilt for the velodrome. Friends have shown me how to service the hubs & bottom bracket which are now running smoothly. Everything is once again shiny (no more riding him through the winter, indoor track ONLY from now on) & the last few bits are on order. All this means that I may be riding him on the track & working towards the next accreditation stage in a couple of weeks. Back where he belongs!

RIP Sir Tom Finney, you will be missed in Preston & in the world of football. A true gent & lovely man who did a lot for local charities & always had a smile on his face. If only footballers these days would take a leaf out of your book, you will be missed.

Personally I prefer bibs: no waistband to dig in & stay up due to the braces/shoulder strap things.
Like everyone else the DHB bibs are great value, but I have been super happy with the ones from Howies which are my bibs of choice (great pad, nice fit, no silicon grippers but still stay firm).

Cest fin! This morning was awful, the weather was definitely against me as I was getting to my friends, struggling to average 10mph against the headwinds. Myself & said friend finally set off, 10mins in & we were in hysterics…battered by wind & horizontal rain. Stopping at the penny farthing cafe in Knutsford for a double helping of cake & copious amounts of tea. Soon after setting off we were pootling along country lanes chatting in the sunshine, finding the long way back & completing the challenge…phew! To celebrate we had pie & pints, laughing at how grubby, disgusting & happy we were (& the joy of beating all the boys in the process. i.e... we are the only ones to have finished at the present time)…ahhhh bliss.

I'm 401km in, pretty pleased with that. Had a rest day yesterday as my legs felt like lead. Other than a couple of rides the weather has been kind, although I have appreciated friends wheels to tuck in behind. Today we had glorious blue skies, cold, but perfect riding weather.

16% of the 500 done. Wind, rain, wind, sun, wind, hail...I hate you weather! Still, some amazing views at the top of the climbs...Just hope my legs recover for tomorrows ride into the wind.

My dad offered to drive me to Blackpool at 20mph* for the entire way on Christmas day so I don't have to cycle, he seems to thinks I'm a bit crazy for having to cycle for the festive500...
*it would probably give me my best average speed though

I have some delicious loose leaf teas from Booths supermarket (only up north though). More than happy to post a couple of bags down (just PM me your address). Currently I'm on a Kenyon tea; golden colour, fresh taste, yet to crack open the English Breakfast but have high hopes.

Not sure this is the right place to ask, but thought it was worth an ask. Anyone know a frame builder in or around Manchester? My trusty steel frame has had a little incident & if it is fixable it would make me very happy indeed.
Alternatively, I am now looking for a new frame to build up as my beater 53-54 c-c tt/st, if you have anything for sale let me know. Not happy about having to now use the super good bike for daily commutes.
