I just picked up a gitane track frame I "won" on ebay last week. Didn't really want it but it was cheapish.
Am I correct in thinking that I will be needing french threaded BB and some randon french size seat pin? Have I just entered a world of pain and frustration?
mine has french bb and headset. it takes a 26.4mm seatpost. the main triangle is 531, but that should depend on the model i guess.
looking at the pictures that frameset does not look like any gitane i have seen before. i only know lugged frames and that drilled cheapish forkcrown and those trackends also seem unfamiliar to me.

bad photo of trackbike with silly wheels. will put them back on the stupid bike and stick with the matching dura ace 7500 wheels. i am in love with the sound of the zipp...

yeah but now it looks shitty in a real ugly way. looked like someone tried to do it properly and failed before.

was not really pleased with it and painted it in the blue which you see on the forks, was even worse so it had to go. maybe ill have another try sometimes...

got rid of the paintjob by scratching it off with a knife. ourys and hhsfw added for maximum stupidity.

rattlecans, including clearcoat. colours are not as bright as i wanted.

mig welded. i think (hope) it will work, wont file or sand the welds so theres plenty of material.

the seattube on the deathtrapeugeot is straight, just checked cause it looks a bit weird in the photo. have just been to a short ride with some mavic bullhorns fitted. could be nice with a bit shorter stem. frame feels not overly soft, pretty decent for a homemade frame made with hardly any measurements. wheelbase is 97cm...

frankenbeater, made of a broken frame and some other old frames bits. ugly welds, just the way i wanted it to look. fork is bent a bit straighter and shortened. high bottombracket and steep angles now, rides surprisingly well. no money invested, 9.2kg as is.

saddle and hubset were made in gdr, so pretty mixed up parts. but its a nice clean build except the position of the straps.

roughen up the surfaces or file some lines in. you could also put some superglue between.

frame is bent. the superkronik-sticker is from a club in leipzig/germoney. maybe it has made its way over to japan?

the sram cranks on that gan well pro are really nice - would look better with a black chainring though I reckon.
actually, I cant seem to find it in black anywhere, just in silver with a black chainring.

got this handlebars on ebay aswell. 41c-c. they look pretty nice and seem to be sold for lots of money elsewhere:
