I have sold a few things, bought a few things and tried to sell and buy things unsuccessfully...and on occasion made donations...part of 'putting something back'.....in a month or so time will be putting a frame up for sale and intending to say up front that 2% of the sale...if it is sold will go to the forum...not much perhaps but if everyone did similar....it would build up and become a significant sum....just a thought.....Making it a rule that anyone eg Highlandpro who is a significant seller on the forum should contribute a fixed % to the forum.....the counter argument is that such a move will deter the Highlandpros of the world adverising stuff on the forum and as a consequence people look out on good stuff.....but what alternative do sellers have?.....Could use similar forums like cycle chat....but success rates are low?....To advertise on CTC website you probably need to be a member and that is a cost... a worthwile cost [like Skully, I am a member too]...so any such member ship would be like a donation to forum funds.....alternatively....Ebay...and we know how expensive the bay is...so perhaps the big sellers and I am sure many sellers give voluntarily without a fuss on fanfare...should be compelled to contribute and if we lose their wares...so be it....they perhaps need the forum more than forum needs them...solidarity is needed here....perhaps like in the Labour movement the concept of 'Unity is Strength' sounds sensible but it has rarely happened as indivual groups are more concerned with what they can get and 'unity can go hang!'.......My £0.2....for what its worth.....We are a community or we are not...which is going to be?.....Let the people pay their taxes!!
well said me and u are labour the rest are conservative!

changed this a bit, hence new thread.
frame is built by roberts from columbus max in 1997. i bought it of the original owner who only used it on the track, i used i maybe 6 times on the road, only selling because lack of space and i am into older bikes (judging objectively this is my best bike). all parts apart from saddle/seatpost and the blue stem and bar combination are original. i will only splitt if frame/forks are taken (£375 incl. bb and hs).
parts:
- dura ace seat post
- lovely rolls due saddle with magesium rails (this was built in 97 and period correct)
- miche primato chainset (165mm)and bb
- miche primato hubs on mavic reflex rims (clincher rear and front tub, these cost
from about £40 per rim if u can get some) 32h, choice of tyres. - miche primax headset, just stunning.
- 17/48 gearing, which gives u 17 skid patches vand 74.7 ratio (you can have others, let me know).
- campa dust caps.
choice of pedals: tvt, shimano pd5500, or old dirty spd (pictured).
the price is £575 for the bike with the 3ttt stem and bars (white bartape) or £625 for the cinelli 2a track stem (this alone costs from £50 if u find one) and cinelli track bars (blue bartape). price is for pick up, but i would post at cost.
here is the full story
Up for sale is a 1997 Chas Roberts/ Sigma made from Clumbus max tubing. It is built to manchester spec and was sold as 56 seat tube and 57 top tube. The real measurements are more like 55 and 58 (ctc). I bought the frame from the original owner who only used it on the track. I have used it on the road for 6 days and it is an awesome responsive ride (you are welcome to have a go).
It takes a seatpost size 27.2. The reason why it says sigma on the frame is because it was recently resprayed over there (http://www.sigmasport.co.uk/app/web/homepage.aspx) and they did not have roberts decals so they just put their sigma nes on. before it was yellow and red.
The fitting was done at sigma but the frame and forks were built by chas roberts, hence the name sigma-roberts.Those of you who are into columbus tubing will probably spot that the top and downtube are round rather than ovalized towards the ends (like on normal max tubing). The answer to this is that roberts usually use a) a blend of the best tubes and b)have their own made by columbus or reynolds. In this case i think the downtube is specifically made for roberts, since it is of rather large diameter. You can see a mountainbike frame made from the same tubing here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...torefresh=true
Max was the top tubing of the period, here is a tubing chart for you to check out: http://equusbicycle.com/bike/columbus/columbuschart.htm
The clearance on the front is not as tight as on some trackbikes but at least you don't have toe overlap. There are no dings in the frame but there a a couple of chips in the paintjob. The frame is undrilled for brakes and I think thats the way it should stay. please consider that a new roberts frame will set you back at least £920 (and that buys you the basic tubing and not the top one).
this is the most realistic pic in terms of colour, very shiny in real life.
this is a 19mm tyre stick a 23mm in an this will look supertight
if the bike doens't sell i will delete the thread before it goes on ebay.
that is amazing .
