Yes. Fingers crossed the ferries run reasonably on schedule and that bad luck doesn’t come into it. Like imagine you get to a ferry crossing in time but then the ferry has a mechanical problem that puts it out of service for a day or the boat captain is sick and there is no replacement available.
I had guessed it was a glitch in my map and the checkpoint was showing up wrong. Seems not. An 800m down and back again would be pretty tough, both physically and mentally. Especially for those further to the back of the field starting to feel deep fatigue by the time they get to this checkpoint.
It would be better if zwift were putting money into womens teams/rider salaries, rather than the overfull pockets of aso, but if this is what it takes to get a womens tdf going again, so be it. Zwift are hardly a UAE, Astana or ineos level bad guy.
Right. Hadn’t zoomed in enough to realise that’s where it was. Is my memory playing tricks with me in making me think there have been off road segments at checkpoints in previous editions?
Some people approaching the second checkpoint. Is the route rideable on road bikes in the dark? (Sometimes in past editions they have been pretty hard off road sections?)
Have been watching S4C (on freesat which is broadcast in HD, unlike itv4) with the sound off (sadly have zero knowledge of Welsh) and then listening to the itv commentary. Has worked well. Except for the couple of stages where s4c decided to broadcast some kind of rural show instead of the tour.
Have to feel a bit for those who have got to drive from Hungary to Etna. Inner ring says it is 1900km by road. Even with shared driving that’s a very long way to do in not much more than 24 hours.
