total lack of public transport infrastructure
What is the Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways if not public transport infrastructure? It's even funded and managed by a central government agency far removed in both space and accountability from the users, which I thought was something you commies loved🙂

I presume there's a way I can work out
Yes, it's called maths. The pitch circle radius of a roller chain sprocket is very close to Pitch×Z/2π, then add 4mm to get the top of the teeth
(12.7×38/2π) +4=80.8mm, so your stays need to be 2×(chainline-4mm*) apart at a point 81mm from the BB centre*half the ring thickness + clearance for flex

✔️165mm, 1×, 38T, fits 73mm shell, cheap as chips, 104mm PCD so loads of aftermarket chainrings available, could use 118 BB instead of 113 to get more chainstay clearance, or bin the guard and use the outer ring position
❌good luck finding 165mm in stock anywherehttps://www.sram.com/en/sram/models/fc-apx-1w-d1
✔️165mm, 1×, 40T, fits 73mm shell
❌165 seems to be hen's teeth at the moment, but Sigmasport say they have a 160 in stock -

38T would probably work but I want something at the cheaper end
I'd offer you my surplus one of these, but you'd get it quicker and cheaper from bezosworld🙂

this amazing product is definitely not the solution, is it?
Would you use a quill stem at its minimum insertion depth in your carbon fork?
I suppose if they're still in business it either means they haven't killed many people yet or kiwiland is just too far away for anybody to bother with litigation, but I wouldn't use that.

Who could have guessed that reading the instructions would have saved days of discussion?
