Not sure where to post this but as there's a possible element of DIY I figure this is the best place.
Looking to replace a dated gas fireplace with an electric one. What options do I have for hiding the power lead? I'm thinking of running a plug in the chimney behind and then an isolator on the chimney brest wall so I can isolate if needed.
Other option is to remove the plug and feed the cable through some conduit, again through the chimney brest and plug straight to a socket nearby.
Or do I just sack it off and leave it open behind the gas fireplace. No heat source, no faff.
Am I missing anything?

After reading this through a few times I'm starting to wonder if it's a good idea!
Some of the brick slips I'd looked at seem to have some colour variation in them so would hopefully look more 'authentic' that also saves all the bloody horrid mess that would come with taking it back to brick. Nevermind the fact my bricks may look dreadful under all the plaster.

Considering the stress of moving (even a little is stressful) it's not something I'd want to do again in a hurry.
Plus although from the road my house may look nice once inside you'll find my kitchen in one of the bedrooms (kitchen has been renovated for the last 4 months) and a certain building site feel to the rest of the house. Not sure that's estate agent material at the moment.

What options so I have for a usable staircase in a Victorian terrace? I don't really want it to look like an afterthought.
Early days but I'm wondering if I section off one of the bedrooms (office anyway so no bother) and fit a full staircase.
Or do I just fit a small ladder and keep the larger sized room?
Is that an offer at 599?
