Mmmm. I suspect the answer to your problem lies in the fact that not all 103mm BBs are created equal. In the bike shop where I work as a mechanic we had exactly this issue. Chainline was out on this particular bike. Calculations showed it needed a bottom bracket of a particular length to get chainline. So, old BB length, minus this amount, equals BB of N-length required, yes? So, I fitted the correct length BB only to find chainline still out. Tried different brand of BB, of the same length, and it worked fine. Go figure, as the colonials might say.
Not helpful in solving your problem I know, but it goes some way to explaining it. Messenger cranks+103mm BB=42mm chainline, usually.

Disagree, tried commuting on my FGFS a few times and hated it!
Tyres too wide, sluggish, compared to my other bikes.
Your whip is nice though!I've also got a fast-fixed, a geared tourer, a polo bike and a geared sprinter, so i use the Scrambler as a bomb-around-town kinda bike. Wouldn't wanna commute far on it, for sure, but for what I do use it for I really enjoy it.

It's a 21inch/54cm c-t frame. I've had a rack on it in the past, but one which has the single-bolt upper fitting, which attaches to the brake-bridge bolt hole. There are one set of threaded holes on the dropouts, so I had the rack and the mudguard stays bolted to the same hole. I still have the rack so that'll be included, but the Brookes and Carradice were recent presents, so they wont be. Alternatives can be supplied if needed.

There seems to be a bit of a mini-trend of people using FGFS bikes as their daily ride/fixie skidda/urban assault weapon, and why not - they're ideally suited to it. This is mine. It's nowt special, just an 1/8th-Inch Scrambler with standard forks(so no barspinz) but it has Profile splinedrive chainring, Velosolo bolt-on cog and Gusset open Prison bars. Bombproof for what I use it for.

Frame is steel, lugged, plain gauge, nothing fancy, unbranded and measures 53.5cm c-t. It's straight and true with no dents or dings but a fair few chips and scratches to the paintwork.
Front wheel is an old Maillard racer wheel. Rear is unknown flip-flop with a 16t freewheel. Fixed side threads look ok but are completely untested!
Chainset is RPM(I think) with a 39t chainring.
Calipers and levers are Weinemann.
Bottom bracket is new, headset has been refreshed, brake cables are all new. Needs nothing, ready to ride.
All in all, a good solid pub bike but nothing fancy.
Check out the pictures and make your own mind up...
Based in Newcastle but could post at cost if required.

My boss has entered this, so I'll be running the bike shop on the Saturday. For that reason, I'm out!
