im not actually able to come to this so why have I got a bee in my bonnet, etc....
Ignore Rob, it's gotta be tough being the middle brother in that family...! Everyone in Brizzle has much love for MCR and knows how much time & effort you guys put into travelling to play/supporting grass roots polo/etc.
Looking forward to seeing the East/West split! Maybe we should be putting this on?!? -

Are Polosapiens the guys who came to Bristol? Didn't they get a podium spot, or near enough?
If so, it really shows how erroneous France's Euro allocation has been. Mid-table in (TOHOE) The Other Half Of Europe!
they came third here in bristol. i guess anyone in the uk aiming for the euro's and currently debating whether or not they need to practice today might want to bear this in mind...!

Panic bump. Don't want this extremely important question to get lost...:
It's a sports hall, but there's currently no heating. We generally just play in t-shirts and a hoody will be more than sufficient between games. I guess it's worth bearing in mind that it is still only early March so a decent sleeping bag will be a good idea overnight, but don't think you need to go overboard.
There are obviously great tees/hoodies available to purchase if you are feeling the cold...!

Absolutely, don't worry everyone is really looking forward to attending your event. Thank you for your hard work and time. Apologies for derailing this thread with infantile sniping with Josh ( I love him really the big teddybear x)
Sorry, didn't quite mean to come on like the thread police, possibly just suffering from an excess of loyalty to my fellow Brizzle polo-istas . I can't take any credit, it's Andre, Ady and co who've been beavering away to make this happen so far. Thanks to them it will be amazing*!
(You might still want to be a bit worried about the music...)

Maybe I'm being oversensitive here but it feels a wee bit like the thread is heading in a direction that doesn't exactly reflect the friendly and fun weekend people here in Bristol are hoping to put on.
Don't come 'cos it is/isn't an NS event. Come 'cos it'll be great weekend of polo: an indoor, warm and dry venue with an amazing viewing balcony and separate chillout area; cheap bar and good food; a 'shop' selling cheap spares; genuinely great prizes and a raffle; non stop 80's music/ no 80's music at all (delete as preferred); the UK's finest 13 year old player (go Alfie!); did I mention the cheap bar; etc...
Really looking forward to seeing you guys there!!!

I get that, it'd be nice to bring some newer player to their 1st tourney, but putting them on against 6-7 stronger londoners might be a bit much for their precious noob constitutions, but putting them in a games with weaker teams and maybe leaving a stronger player out could be good
And here was me as a 'noob' in an other wise experienced team thinking that bm would be the perfect taster for competitive polo. Don't worry about our 'precious constitutions', whup our asses. We'll be back...

Question: I am getting pain in my palm, in the spot where I rest in the top of the mallet when I'm in goal. I want to pad, or otherwise modify, the top of the mallet. What are other people using?
I've got a champagne cork*, trimmed the part the normally fits inside the neck of the bottle and stuck this in the top of the pole/shaft. First version wobbled all over the place even when firmly taped up (currently just using hocky tape on the grip), so tried again but this time with a long wood screw with a wide flat head through the full length of the cork to make it more rigid and again a couple of layers of tape over the top to secure it. This works fine, looks tidy-ish and the step up from taped pole up to cork gives a natural 'stop' at the end of the mallet so it feels less likely to slip from my hand. I guess it's a few extra grams, but it's not at the business end where it would matter more. It's definitely more comfortable when tripod-ing in goal and as an added bonus I feel less likely to impale a fellow player through my general cack-handedness whilst playing.
(*hey, I made my mallet at Xmas, ok!?!)

Wouldn't recommend the On-Guard. I'm on my second one in 6 weeks, both jammed for reasons I don't understand. Used every day so have got a bit wet but I'm pretty conscientious about using wd4o on almost a weekly basis, having been caught out with a jammed lock in the past. First lock jammed whilst stuffed in my pocket, key would go in and out but wouldn't turn. To be fair to the uk distro guys they replaced it without batting a lash. Unfortunately the second lock has jammed in exactly the same way after only being used for about a week, this time looped on the frame. I'm pretty sure that I've just been unlucky having two locks go wrong on the trot, but as above a quick look on-line soon tells you that the random jamming is a bit of an issue. Just ordered a Fagh... won't be skimping on the cost of a lock again!
